Star Wars

Princess Leia

Along with her twin brother Luke Skywalker, Leia was born from the tragic union of the fallen Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala just after the collapse of the Old Republic and Emperor Palpatine‘s rise to power. Anakin had turned to evil and become Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith and the Emperor’s servant, and Padme died shortly after giving birth. The infant twins were strong in the Force, so the surviving members of the Jedi Order ( Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi) decided that they must be split up and raised in secret, lest the Emperor learn of their existence and exploit their potential. Luke was sent to live with his aunt and uncle on Tatooine, while Leia was adopted by Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan.

Leia as a young girl on Alderaan

Bail and his wife raised Leia as their own daughter and as a royal princess of their house. Even as a young girl, Leia always felt that she was quite different from the rest of her family. She often had the idea that she was missing someone who should have been very close to her, an early manifestation of her Force abilities unconsciously sensing the existence of her twin brother Luke.

Leia Organa grew to be an intelligent, headstrong, and fiery young woman with a natural gift for leadership and politics. She also proved adept at combat, developing a keen understanding of battle strategy and honing her blaster skills to the point where she almost never missed her target. At the mere age of eighteen she was elected as the youngest member of the Imperial Senate and became an outspoken opponent of Emperor Palpatine’s tyrannical regime. In secret, Leia helped found the underground resistance movement that eventually became known as the Rebel Alliance.

Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia

Princess Leia Organa was created by filmmaker George Lucas to be the leading female character of his groundbreaking science-fantasy film Star Wars in 1977. Leia became the heroine of the Galactic Civil War, as told in the classic Star Wars trilogy of films, and was also the main heroine of most of the non-cinematic stories that followed (told through novelizations and comic books). Leia was portrayed by actress Carrie Fisher in the films. In comic books, Leia made her debut in the official Marvel Comicsadaptation of the original movie, written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by artist Howard Chaykin.

Episode IV: A New Hope

When Leia learned that the Emperor was constructing the Death Star, an enormous battle station capable of destroying entire planets, she spearheaded a daring plan to have the technical data of the Death Star stolen by Rebel spies operating within the Empire. She would then locate General Obi-Wan Kenobi, who had gone into hiding on Tatooine, and bring him back to Alderaan, where a strategy for attacking the Death Star could be formulated using the stolen data. Leia’s plan was initially successful in stealing the Death Star data tapes, but when her blockade runner arrived at Tatooine, it was intercepted and captured by an Imperial Star Destroyer commanded by Darth Vader. Leia hid the plans in the astromech droid R2-D2 just before being apprehended by Imperial stormtroopers. R2-D2 and his counterpart, C-3PO, managed to escape the doomed Rebel ship by using an escape pod and made their way to Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine. Leia was imprisoned on the very battle station she hoped to destroy, the Death Star, and tortured in an effort to make her reveal the location of the hidden Rebel base. But her will was strong and she refused to betray the Alliance, even when interrogated by Vader himself.

Interrogated by Darth Vader

The commander of the Death Star, Grand Moff Tarkin, decided that another means of persuasion was necessary and ordered the Death Star to Leia’s homeworld of Alderaan, a planet that had long been a thorn in the Empire’s side due to its policy of peaceful resistance. Leia was brought to the bridge and told that if she did not reveal the Rebel location, Alderaan would be destroyed. At this point her resistance finally appeared to crumble and she confessed that the Rebel base was on the planet Dantooine. Tarkin ordered the Death Star to fire anyway, deeming Dantooine too remote to be an effective demonstration of the battle station’s power, and Alderaan was vaporized before Leia’s very eyes. Later, Tarkin learned that the Dantooine base had been abandoned for some time and ordered Leia terminated.

Leia was rescued from the Death Star and termination by an unlikely group of heroes led by Obi-Wan Kenobi. Among them was Luke Skywalker, the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 (still carrying the stolen data tapes), the smuggler captain Han Solo, and his Wookiee first mate Chewbacca. Kenobi allowed himself to be killed in a duel against his former pupil, Darth Vader, so the others could escape in Solo’s modest-yet-capable starship the Millenium Falcon. They blasted free of the Death Star and set course for Yavin IV, the actual location of the hidden Rebel base. Leia was the only one to realize that their escape had been too easy and that the Death Star must be tracking them.

Monitoring the assault on the Death Star

On Yavin IV, the Rebels analyzed the Death Star data carried by R2-D2 and determined that the battle station had an exploitable weakness, though it would take a nearly impossible shot into a small thermal exhaust port in order to destroy it. The Death Star was now on its way and Leia and the other Rebel leaders assembled a desperate attack strategy. Luke decided to participate in the attack, but Han deemed it to be suicidal and departed after receiving compensation for Leia’s rescue. As Leia monitored the battle from the command center, a small fleet of Rebel X-Wing and Y-Wing starfighters launched themselves at the approaching Death Star. The strike force was quickly decimated by Imperial TIE fighters led by Darth Vader, until only Luke was left to carry out the attack plan. All seemed lost until Han unexpectedly returned in the Millenium Falcon, disrupting the pursuing TIE fighters just long enough for Luke (guided by the Force) to make the impossible shot. The Death Star was destroyed, and Leia presided over the Rebel victory ceremony.

The Battle of Yavin had been a stunning victory for the growing Rebellion, but the aftermath saw the Empire throw all of its vast resources into crushing it completely.

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Commanding Rebel troops on Hoth

Leia and the other Rebel leaders established a new command base on the remote ice world of Hoth, while the dreaded Imperial Starfleet, commanded by Darth Vader, searched for them by launching thousands of probe droids across the galaxy. Luck was not on the Rebel side as one of the probes landed on Hoth and revealed their location to Vader. Leia once again was forced to organize a desperate battle plan before the Empire arrived. The Imperial forces soon overwhelmed Rebel defenses, though the Rebels managed to hold out long enough to evacuate most of their equipment and personnel from the planet. Leia, overseeing the final stages of the evacuation, missed the last transport and narrowly escaped with Han, Chewbacca, and C-3PO on the Millenium Falcon, but the ship could not reach the safety of hyperspace due to a faulty hyperdrive. Han’s superior piloting skills evaded a furious Imperial pursuit long enough for the ship to take refuge in an asteroid field, where they tried to effect repairs.

Why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking…

Leia and Han had been acting as though they couldn’t stand each other up until that point, an animosity that concealed a strong mutual attraction. But her feelings for the smuggler finally surfaced and they shared their first kiss during this brief respite. Their budding romance was quickly put on hold, as the asteroid cave the Falcon was docked in turned out to be the throat and jaws of a gigantic Space Slug living inside the asteroid. Han flew the ship back out into space just before they were devoured, but unfortunately right into the path of an Imperial Star Destroyer. The hyperdrive still wouldn’t work, so Han pulled a desperate maneuver by feigning attack and latching the Falcon onto a blind spot of the Star Destroyer’s hull. The maneuver fooled the Imperials but not the bounty hunter Boba Fett, whom Vader had shrewdly hired to locate the Falcon. When the Falcon drifted away after the Imperial Fleet jettisoned their garbage, Boba Fett’s starship tracked them at a discreet distance.

Leia in a Bespin-style gown

Han flew the Falcon to Cloud City, a floating mining colony on the planet Bespin, with the hope that his old friend Lando Calrissian could fix the hyperdrive. Lando, the former owner of the Falcon and now the administrator of the city, took an immediate interest in Leia, who did not trust him despite Han’s assurances. Her instincts turned out to be well founded. After a warm welcome and a show of lavish hospitality, Lando turned the group over to Darth Vader and Boba Fett, who had arrived in the city just before the Falcondid. Leia was taken prisoner by the Empire and forced to watch as Han was frozen in carbonite. She proclaimed her love for Han, not knowing if she would see him alive again.

Leia also learned from Lando that they were merely the bait for a trap: Vader was more interested in capturing Luke Skywalker, and Luke was now on his way to Cloud City to rescue them. When he arrived, Leia screamed to him to turn back before she was dragged away by her captors. But Luke took the bait and wound up confronting a waiting Vader.

Lando, wracked by guilt, switched sides and had his security forces apprehend the Imperials guarding Leia and Chewbacca. The two were not grateful and Chewbacca nearly strangled Lando before he convinced them they could still save Han, who was being brought to Boba Fett’s ship for delivery to the crime lord Jabba the Hutt. They arrived a minute too late and Leia watched helplessly as Fett’s starship soared away.

Gunning for Stormtroopers

Leia, Lando, and Chewbacca (carrying a dismembered C-3PO) fought their way through stormtroopers to the Falcon and met up with R2-D2, who had arrived on Cloud City with Luke. After they lifted off, Leia had a vision of Luke crying for help. She ordered the Falcon to turn back and spotted Luke hanging from a weather vane on the underside of the city, having gotten the worst of his duel with Vader. They pulled Luke aboard, but were immediately pursued by TIE Fighters and Vader’s Star Destroyer. The hyperdrive failed again, despite Lando’s claim that he had it fixed, and all seemed lost until R2-D2 performed an emergency repair and the Falcon rocketed to safety.

They rejoined the rest of the Rebel Fleet and Luke, who had lost a hand during his battle with Vader, had a new bionic hand attached. Leia could tell that Luke had been scarred more than just physically by the confrontation, but did not learn until much later what was troubling him.

While the Alliance regrouped from their defeat on Hoth, Leia and her friends made plans to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. During this time Leia managed to acquire the armor of a recently deceased bounty hunter known as Boushh, and later used this identity to infiltrate Jabba’s palace on Tatooine.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

At first the rescue mission went according to plan, with Lando (posing as a guard-for-hire), R2-D2, and C-3PO all successfully infiltrating Jabba’s criminal organization. Leia, in disguise as Boushh, then brought Chewbacca into the palace as her ‘captive.’ Her tough bargaining skills impressed the Hutt and she was invited to stay. However her cover was soon compromised, and after unthawing Han from his carbonite prison, she was captured. Jabba, eager to humiliate the attractive young princess, forced her to wear the skimpy metal bikini of a slave girl and chained her to his throne.

In the iconic metal bikini as Jabba’s slave girl

Luke, now nearly a Jedi Knight, arrived and initially tried to bargain with Jabba for their release. The Hutt was unreceptive and attempted to have Luke fed to the Rancor, a fearsome monster that lived in a pit beneath the palace. Luke killed the Rancor in self-defense, and an outraged Jabba ordered Luke, Han, and Chewbacca fed to an even more fearsome monster in the Tatooine desert known as the Sarlacc. The prisoners were brought via Jabba’s sail barge to the Sarlacc’s lair, but Luke, with Lando and R2’s help, turned the tables on Jabba and counter-attacked. Leia chose that moment to strike, killing the lights inside Jabba’s barge and strangling Jabba with the chain that bound her. R2-D2 cut her loose and Leia helped destroy the barge by aiming its main laser cannon directly at the deck before Luke set it off. The victorious group commandeered a sand skiff and departed, leaving Jabba’s organization in smoking ruins.

Leia and her friends then returned to the gathering Rebel Fleet. There it was learned that the Emperor was building a new Death Star even more powerful than the original and without the previous weakness, so they had to attack before it was completed. To further the incentive to attack, the Emperor himself was due to arrive on the battle station. The new Death Star was protected by an energy shield generated from the nearby forest moon of Endor, so it was decided that Leia, Han, and Luke would lead the surface strike against the generator, while Lando, piloting the Millenium Falcon, led the starfighter assault against the Death Star itself.

Under the cover of a stolen Imperial shuttle the strike team was allowed to land on Endor, but once they deployed on the surface they were noticed by Imperial scout troopers. Leia and Luke chased the scouts through the forest on commandeered speeder bikes, with Leia getting separated from the others and crashing her bike. Though she survived the crash unharmed she was nearly captured by more Imperial scouts, but received unexpected help from an Ewok, a small furry native of Endor. Taking advantage of the distraction, Leia dispatched the scouts and was brought to the Ewok’s village as a friend.

Among the Ewoks on Endor

The other strike team commanders had a less friendly encounter with the Ewoks, so Luke duped the primitive beings into thinking that C-3PO was some sort of god in order to get them freed. Leia was reunited with them and with the help of their new Ewok allies, the Rebels made plans to attack the Imperial bunker housing the shield generator. Leia sensed that Luke had a lot on his mind and confronted him during an interlude outside the village. She finally learned from him that Darth Vader, their greatest enemy, was actually Luke’s father, and she herself was Luke’s sister. Despite Leia’s strenuous objections, Luke insisted that he must face their father again because there was still good in him, and departed.

Leia and Han’s attempt on the shield generator went awry, as did the entire Rebel assault plan. The Emperor knew of the attack well beforehand and stationed a legion of troops around the bunker, where the Rebel strike team was quickly surrounded and captured. In space above Endor, the Rebel Fleet was being decimated by the combined firepower of the still protected and surprisingly operational Death Star and the Imperial Fleet. Just when all seemed lost, the native Ewoks attacked the Imperial troops in force, throwing them into disarray. After a pitched battle, during which Leia was wounded, the Rebels were able to break into the bunker and destroy the shield generator with detonators. Lando and the Rebel starfighters then successfully attacked the now-unprotected Death Star and destroyed it. With the Emperor dead, the remaining Imperial forces scattered.

Watching the demise of the second Death Star

Watching the battle station’s demise from below, Leia revealed to a very relieved Han that Luke was actually her brother and therefore not a rival love interest. Luke returned, having redeemed his father and become a fully-fledged Jedi Knight and the Alliance celebrated their decisive victory over the Empire.

The New Republic

Leia becomes a Jedi Knight

The Battle of Endor marked the end of the Empire and the founding of the New Republic, of which Leia naturally became a prominent leader. But the scattered remnants of the former Empire would continue to plague the New Republic for some time, and Leia and the other heroes of the Rebellion had to remain ever vigilant.

Though most of Leia’s energies were devoted to matters of state, Luke trained her in the ways of the Force and she eventually became a powerful Jedi in her own right. She also married Han Solo and had three children: a daughter, Jaina, and two sons, Jacen and Anakin, themselves all strong in the Force.

Star Wars

Padmé Amidala

Padme is a native of the planet of Naboo, one of the more influential planets in the inner rim. Her parents are Ruwee and Naberrie, and she is the third of three children. Children on Naboo choose their careers when they are young and Padme decided on a path in public service since a young age. One of her early prominent roles was as a member of the Refugee Relief Movement. She later joined the Legislative Youth Program, which established her on the path for a political career. When she was 13 she was voted Princess of Theed and by the age of 14 she was voted as Queen of Naboo. This position was designed to replace the previous system in which King Veruna had served essentially as a dictator. As part of her legacy from leaving public service she established the rule that the planetary monarch must be elected and that the position be filled by a teenage girl.

The character of Padme Amidala was created by George Lucas for his “prequel” trilogy of Star Wars films. Her appearances have primarily been linked to film tie-ins including her first appearance in the comic book adaptation on the first movie in Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace issue #0.5. Her appearance in this issue though drawn by Rodolfo Damagio is nonetheless heavily based on Natalie Portman, the actress that portrayed her.

Character Evolution

Padme’s development as a character is much more closely in line with the film version of the Star Wars universe than almost any other characters. As her history is primarily linked with the movies there are fewer gaps to fill in for the character, and so outside of her depiction in the movies, her story as told in comics either fills in background details or provides small glimpses into other events in her life. The most defining aspects of her character is her love for Anakin Skywalker as well as a devotion to public life and the common good. This makes it that the events surrounding her life are chaotic when around Anakin, and relatively sedate otherwise. Towards the end of her life she lost faith in both of these beliefs which helped drive her life’s ambitions and goals.

Major Story Arcs

The majority of Padme’s comic book appearances are in comic book adaptations of the Star Wars films and thus the developments for the character mirror the films to a large degree. The film in which Padme had the most relevance was in the Phantom Menace. She is introduced as the perplexed Queen of Naboo, struggling to find a path forward as the Trade Federation has enacted an illegal trade embargo on the planet which they are using as a prelude for invasion. After the negotiations of Obi Wan Kenobi and Qui Gon Jin fail she finds a path towards resolving her situation, albeit an unconventional one as she joins the Jedi Knights as they decide to seek a political solution at the Galactic Senate on Coruscant. While escaping Naboo their spacecraft is heavily damaged (though saved from destruction by R2-D2) and is forced to travel to Tatooine where they are aided by a pair of slaves, Shmi Skywalker and her son Anakin. Anakin eventually decides to race in the pod races and Qui Gon wins a substantial bet on the race allowing them to purchase the needed parts for their spacecraft and flee. Qui Gon also arranges that Anakin be freed from slavery. The erstwhile group travels to Coruscant to argue for political intervention but the Senate is mired in power struggles (which Senator Palpatine later uses to assume to rank of chancellor.) The group returns to Naboo to lead their own rebellion against the new Trade Federation control and Padme forms an alliance with the Gungans, a group of amphibian humanoids with whom relations have generally been strained. After retaking the royal palace (in which the Jedi Knights were forced to confront Darth Maul) Naboo is returned to the control of the planet’s native inhabitants and the alliance with the Gungans continues.

At the beginning of the second film, Padme has assumed the post of Senator to the Galactic Senate as the representative of Naboo as she was forced to stand down as Queen due to the stipulations which she herself enacted and later had to enforce. The Trade Federation is still seeking revenge against her for her earlier actions on Naboo and numerous assassination attempts take place. She is assigned a pair of Jedi protector, Obi Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. When Obi Wan is later drawn off by an investigation which leads him to Geonosis, Padme is left in the care of Anakin. They decide to travel together to Naboo, where a mutual love grows between the two. Anakin attempts to resist his feelings as it is forbidden to the Jedi to have close personal attachments, and Padme resists because of similar reasons. As Anakin is experiencing dreams about his mother he journeys with Padme to Tatooine to find that she has been kidnapped by Tusken Raiders. Anakin succeeds in rescuing his mother but she dies soon after. He and Padme soon respond to a distress call from Obi Wan on Geonosis and travel there together (along with C-3P0 who Anakin had built as a child). They are captured on Geonosis and are planned to be executed together in a public arena, but admit their love for each other first. While fighting back against the monsters chosen to devour the trio, a group of Jedi intervenes and later Jedi Master Yoda intervenes with the Clone Army. They are able to once again defeat the Trade Federation but Count Dooku manages to escape. Anakin and Padme are soon after wed to one another on Naboo.

Padme’s role in the third movie is more as a secondary character as the Jedi attempt to discover who has been manipulating the Republic behind the scenes. Padme reveals to Anakin that she is pregnant and later plots with other senators (including Bail Organa and Mon Mothma) which forms the basis for the later Rebellion against the Galactic empire as seen in episodes 4-6. Padme is also the main reason Anakin Skywalker felt to the dark side. In desperate attempt to make his wife, the one who loved the most, Padme, internal, and to keep her safe and well protected, he fell to the dark side. After Anakin’s descent to the dark side of the force she travels to Mustafar to try to reason with him and to save him before Obi Wan is successful in tracking him down and killing him. She is ultimately unsuccessful and suffers a physical breakdown. After the Sith have successfully taken over the Empire, Obi Wan, Yoda and Bail Organa attend to her, but she is in the process of dying. She first gives birth to and names Luke and Leia, though their paths would not be the same.

Powers and Abilities

Padme did not envisage that by joining a career path as a politician that her life would include so much danger and action, but despite this she has proven herself adept at surviving through difficult situations. For instance, during the Battle of Geonosis she was able to survive while many powerful Jedi died alongside her. She has proven to be adept with some weapons, most notably blasters, and she has been shown to be in peak physical condition. It is often suggested that she herself is somewhat in tune with the force, having given birth to two children who would later become adept with the force. In addition, she was able to deceive both Obi Wan and Qui Gon as to her true identity as she impersonated a handmaiden in her entourage so that she could gather information.

Star Wars

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker was born in Polis Massa in 19 BBY. His birth was kept a secret because it was occuring during the Great Purge of the Jedi by Emperor Palpatine through the use of his clone army. The majority of the Jedi were killed or being hunted down, as were all those with a high enough midi-chlorian count to be Force sensitive. In order to protect Luke from his father – Darth Vader – Luke and his sister Leia were split up and hidden by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Leia with Senator Bail Organa on Alderaan and Luke with his step uncle and aunt on Tatooine where his father grew up.

Despite the kindness and generosity of his foster father Luke and Owen often didn’t get on. Luke was far too adventurous for Owen’s liking (a trait he inherited from his father) and he spent precious time training to be a pilot instead of a moisture farmer like Owen wanted. At first Obi-Wan Kenobi, having chosen to watch over the Luke on Tatooine, would frequently visit and tell him stories of his father’s exploits as a Jedi, although never revealing to Luke that he was there with Anakin as a fellow Jedi. Luke listened to the tales never suspecting that old Ben Kenobi was anything other than a crazy man. Owen began to dislike these tales that Ben was regaling Luke with as he felt these nurtured and expanded the adventurous side of Luke. He promptly banned Ben from visiting Luke before Luke became a teenager.

Luke Skywalker first appeared in Star Wars Volume 1 issue 1 (1977). He was however inspired by a character that appeared in the George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope.

A New Hope

When a group of Jawa traders visited Luke’s moisture farm, Luke and his uncle Owen purchased two droids: R2-D2 and C-3PO. While cleaning and repairing the droids, Luke discovered a part of a holorecording in R2-D2 asking for aid from Obi-Wan Kenobi. In an attempt to view the rest of the message, Luke removed the restraining bolt from R2-D2 but to no avail, the holorecording cut off. While Luke was eating tea with his aunt and uncle, Artoo took advantage of the lack of restraining bolt and escaped the moisture farm, seeking Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The next morning, Luke and Threepio took Luke’s speeder and went looking for the Artoo. They found the astromech in a canyon in the Jundland Wastes but were ambushed by Tusken Raiders shortly afterwards. The Tuskens knocked out Luke and tore off Threepio’s arm while Artoo hid in an alcove of the canyon wall. They were rescued by Ben Kenobi who took Luke to his home for Luke to recover. Ben informed Luke of his real name – Obi-Wan – and that he was the man Artoo claimed to be searching for. Obi-Wan informed Luke that his father was a Jedi Knight in the Clone Wars and encouraged Luke to train in the ways of the Force under Obi-Wan. Luke turned down the offer, stating that he was needed by his uncle for their farm but did offer Obi-Wan a lift to Anchorage where Obi-Wan could get a transport to Mos Eisley.

On the way, they encountered the Jawa transport that had sold the droids to Luke and Owen. The transport had been destroyed by a group of Imperial stormtroopers. Luke realized that if the stormtroopers were seeking the droids and that if they had found the Jawas, they would soon find the moisture farm as well. Luke immediately travelled back to the farm only to find the farm sacked and his uncle and aunt dead. Grieving, he returned to Obi-Wan and agreed to travel with him to Alderaan and learn to become a Jedi.

Together, they travelled to the space port of Mos Eisley where they met Han Solo and Chewbacca. They hired the pair of them to take them to Alderaan in their ship: the Millennium Falcon. During the journey, Obi-Wan began Luke’s training, giving him his father’s lightsaber and a training droid. Upon arrival in the Alderaan system, they found the planet destroyed and were captured in the tractor beam of the Death Star. a space station the size of a small moon. They hid in some smuggling compartments on the ship then made their way to the control room where Obi-Wan found out the location of the tractor beam controls so he could disable it.

When Artoo discovered the location of Princess Leia, Luke, Han and Chewbacca went to the detention block where she was being held. They freed Leia only to find themselves pinned down by a squad of stormtroopers. Together they fled down a junk disposal tunnel and found themselves in a magnetically sealed room. After a close shave involving their near deaths when the walls of the room began to close in on them, the group made their way back to the Falcon only to find Obi-Wan in the midst of a lightsaber duel with Darth Vader. Obi-Wan fell to Vader’s blade but instead of dying in the normal sense, Obi-Wan just disappeared.

The rest of the group escaped in the Falcon and travelled to the Rebel base on Yavin IV but were followed by the Death Star due to a tracker placed on board the Millennium Falcon during Leia’s rescue. After a briefing on how the Rebels were to destroy the Death Star, Luke flew an X-Wing with proton torpedoes to be used against the giant space station alongside many other rebels. One of the rebels named Biggs Darklighter was an old friend of Luke’s from Tatooine.

Many rebels died during the assault on the Death Star, including Darklighter. Eventually though, through using the Force for guidance, Luke managed to shoot one of his proton torpedoes down an exhaust pipe and into the Death Star, destroying it shortly before it would have fired on Yavin IV.

Upon their return to the Rebel base, Luke and Han were celebrated as heroes and were each awarded with medals from Princess Leia.

Choices of One

Following an infiltration mission to discover potential bases for the Rebel Alliance, Luke was tasked with an assignment to travel to the planet Poln Major. He was ordered to follow the Millenium Falcon in a Z-95 Headhunter without alerting Han or Chewbacca of his presence. Han had been given the job of escorting the former governor of the Logarra District on Alderaan – a man named Vestin Axlon – to Poln Major where he would be negotiating a new base for the Rebellion in exchange for protection from the alien warlord Nuso Esva who had built up an army in uncharted space. Once he arrived on Poln Major, Luke was to act as a hidden aspect should things turn sour.

Han, however, was not as easy to trick as Axlon had hoped. Upon landing, Han immediately walked to where Luke’s Z-95 Headhunter was docked to confront him. Realizing that there was little point in maintaining Luke’s presence as a secret, Axlon ordered Luke to accompany him for the first meeting with the Imperial governor of the Candoras system: Bidor Ferrouz.

The next day, Axlon received word that an Imperial agent (Mara Jade) would be targeting Ferrouz for his treasonous meetings with the Rebel Alliance. Luke was ordered to wait outside the palace, watching for the agent and engage her in combat if necessary. But by the time Luke was in position, he was too late. Mara Jade had already entered the palace under the guise of a criminal.

While Luke was watching outside, Mara Jade had infiltrated the palace. As she was about to take Ferrouz’s life, he revealed to her that he had only proposed to join the Alliance because Nuso Esva had captured his wife and daughter. Mara Jade was leaving to follow up some leads when the palace was attacked by a group of Nuso Esva’s men.

Outside, Luke found himself in the middle of a riot created by more of Nuso Esva’s men. Thinking that Ferrouz had been killed by Mara Jade – with her lightsaber – the ringleader grabbed Luke’s lightsaber and flailed it around in the air, shouting that Luke had killed Ferrouz. Luke was able to retrieve his weapon and escape the riot but was unable to contact his fellow rebels. His comlink had become damaged beyond use when he threw it at the man holding his lightsaber in a successful attempt to make him release it. However, Luke was found by Brightwater of the Hand of Judgement. Brightwater gave Luke his belt which contained emergency rations and other useful items before heading back to the rest of his team. The Hand of Judgement had been recruited by Mara Jade for one final mission before they were forced to retire due to lack of supplies.

Mara Jade, Ferrouz and Axlon (who was about to have his second meeting with Ferrouz when the palace was attacked) had met up with the Hand of Judgement in the cellar of a tapcaf. Mara Jade left to try and find Ferrouz’s family while everyone else held their positions. With Mara Jade gone, Axlon took the opportunity to betray Ferrouz and the Hand of Judgement, he severely injured Grave and Quiller then held the rest at blaster point. He revealed his plans to forge an alliance between the Rebels and Nuso Esva’s army by helping to kill Ferrouz and to blame it on Luke by killing Ferrouz with Luke’s lightsaber upon his arrival. However, while Axlon was distracted, Quiller was able to use Brightwater’s knife to stab and kill Axlon. LaRone contacted Luke to inform him of Axlon’s betrayal and what his intentions had been. Instead of coming to the tapcaf, LaRone asked Luke to spy on the group of Nuso Esva’s men who had been responsible for the riot.

When the group was about to move out, Luke killed the sentry guarding their speeder, removed the blasters from the speeder’s storage compartment and hid himself in their under a blanket behind the dead sentry’s body. Upon the discovery of the body in their storage compartment, Nuso Esva’s men assumed that the Hand of Judgement had killed the sentry and made off with their blasters. With Luke stowing away in the storage compartment, they travelled to the cave in which Ferrouz’s family was hidden. Here, Luke hid in a dark corner, biding his time until the opportunity to make his way into the room which contained Ferrouz’s family revealed itself.

When Mara Jade deliberately set off a booby trap elsewhere in the cave causing a large explosion, Luke took his opportunity and ran for the door to the room containing Ferrouz’s family. Unfortunately, however, he was pinned down by Nuso Esva’s forces and would have been slain had it not been for the aid of Mara Jade. Mara Jade rescued Ferrouz’s family while Luke left. The Rebel forces had realized their chances of establishing a new base on Poln Minor were slim. They withdrew from the planet and headed for Hoth, accidentally leaving clues as to there new whereabouts for Vader to follow.

The Empire Strikes Back

Three years after the Death Star had been destroyed, the Empire destroyed the Rebel Base on Hoth VI. Though the spiritual guidance of Obi-Wan, Luke traveled to Dagobah, in whose swamps Yoda now made his home, to become Yoda’s apprentice and continue his training in use of the Force. Luke was however troubled by visions of Han and Leia tortured by the Empire and decided cease his training to rescue his comrades. By the time Luke reached Cloud City he was too late to save Han or Leia–but he and Vader engaged in a lightsaber battle. Vader’s power was much more vast than Luke’s, but he did not kill Luke because he wanted Luke to turn to the Dark Side and become an ally of the Empire. They fought, and Vader eventually slashed off Luke’s hand at the wrist and his father’s lightsaber along with it. Vader tells Luke his true parentage but Luke chose death over life as Vader’s son, and he let go and fell. He barely survived and continued the fight against Vader and the Empire.

Return of the Jedi

More than six months passed. Over that time, Luke formed a plan to free Han. The group went to Luke’s former home planet of Tatooine, location of Jabba the Hutt’s palace, where Han was frozen. (Lando Calrissian participated in order to win a wager against Leia Organa, who had bet that he could not redeem himself by assisting them.) They freed him and Leia succeeded in killing Jabba himself.

The Alliance had learned that the Empire was building a second, more powerful Death Star, knowledge that the Emperor had secretly allowed it to obtain. Luke and his friends arrive at Endor and align with the Ewok, until Luke decides to confront his father and the Emperor. When Leia tries to persuade him not to do it, Luke reveals their relation as siblings and that it was his destiny to confront the Dark Lords of the Sith.

When Luke traveled to the base where Vader and the Emperor were, he revealed his acceptance of the fact that Vader had once been Anakin Skywalker, his father, and tried to draw Vader back where Kenobi had failed. But aboard the unfinished second Death Star, he would eventually duel his father in another lightsaber duel. Once Vader learns about Leia and threatens her life, Luke succumbs to the Dark Side. After Luke defeats Vader, the Emperor tempts to take his father’s place but Luke refuses. Enraged, the Emperor fired Force lightning at him, and was about to kill him as Vader watched. Vader becomes Anakin Skywalker once again and throw’s the Emperor down the reactor shaft. Luke tries to save his father, but he request that his helmet be removed so he can see his son one last time. Luke escapes the Death Star just time as it explodes are lands on Endor, where he cremates his father’s armor on a funeral pyre. Luke later joins the Rebels as they celebrate the end of the Empire and sees the spirits of Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin watch over them.

Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor

Shortly after his promotion to general, Luke was involved in the attack on an Imperial base on the planet Mindor. The planet was surrounded by meteors on almost unpredictable courses. As a result, the New Republic hit as hard and fast as they could so the Imperial forces seemed to be defeated very easily. However, it was all a ploy. Lord Shadowspawn pretended to be flying to Luke’s ship under the pretence of peace negotiations while the ship was in fact loaded with a bomb. Before the bomb could reach Luke’s ship, he realized what it was and had it destroyed. Despite this, the blast from the bomb was able to split Luke’s ship into three, killing many members of the crew.

Luke during the assault on Mindor

Luke was able to use the Force to land his third of the ship and decided to allow himself to be captured by Shadowspawn’s forces. He was taken into an underground complex where he was forced to engage in a duel with Shadowspawn. Part of the way through the duel, Luke realized that the man he was fighting was a fake, Lord Shadow’s Pawn. Using the Force, Luke discovered exactly where to hit the man in order to release the control put over him by Cronal (also known as Blackhole). The man informed Luke of his name, Nick, but their exchange was cut short when the rock beneath them literally moved and swallowed them both.

It was Cronal’s plan to move his Force essence into Luke, giving him immense power and an important position. He had been planning for this to happen for a long time and had discovered a way of using Force alchemy to manipulate the stone (meltmassif). He gave Luke the illusion that he was at the end of the universe and that any struggle would be useless but Luke was able to extend his presence and free Nick who had been possessed once again. Nick defeated the other possessed individuals but was unable to save them, he then used the stun setting on a blaster to liquefy the meltmassif surrounding Luke.

Together they escaped from the complex and were confronted by a group of black armored stormtroopers. Instead of fighting, however, they hailed Luke as their Emperor – part of Cronal’s plan so that he would be the Emperor when he took over Luke’s body. Luke ordered the stormtroopers to cease firing on the New Republic forces and help them instead. They moved on to were Luke predicted the Millenium Falcon would land soon but instead of finding Han, Leia and Chewbacca aboard, they found Nick’s girlfriend Aeona and a group of Mindorians.

After being rescued by the Falcon, Aeona and the Mindorians had thought that the best way of escaping the planet alive would be to hijack it so they had kicked out the actual crew members in a cave. Luke realized that this gave Cronal the perfect opportunity to take Leia’s body instead of Luke’s. He commanded the new crew to fly down into the meltmassif using the ship’s blasters to liquefy it so the ship could get through. He arrived to find Han with an unconscious Leia as her brain was infected with meltmassif to help Cronal transfer his Force essence. Luke tried to help Leia but realized that she didn’t need it.

As the group were about to escape, they were attacked by Cronal who was possessing Nick’s brother Kar Vastor, a hulking human with Force sensitivity. After defeating him, Luke used the Force link between Cronal and Vastor to communicate with Cronal who was in hyperspace escaping at the time. Cronal used the meltmassif to send every one of his stormtroopers on a rampage which caught the New Republic forces unaware as the stormtroopers had been acting peacefully under Luke’s command. Luke was able to destroy the item allowing Cronal control over the meltmassif but in doing so, killed the thousands of stormtroopers formerly under Cronal’s command. Feeling that it was necessary after causing all the deaths, Luke remained connected to every single stormtrooper as they died.

Shortly afterwards, Luke resigned his position as general and hired the investigator Lorz Geptun to find out everything he could about the events on Mindor. However, instead of filing a full and proper report, Geptun accepted a holodrama contract and sold a story based on the events in exchange for more money than Luke was offering. After a lot of persuasion, Luke was made to come around to the idea as it would only bring good publicity to the New Republic and Luke.

Ambush at Corellia

Following Han, Leia, Chewbacca and the children’s departure to Corellia for their holiday, Luke visited Lando Calrissian in his new home in the lower levels of Coruscant. The home complex had been a project of Lando’s to provide a pleasant place to live for those who could not afford to move to the higher levels. Lando explained to Luke his desire to marry a wealthy heiress so as to use her money for further investment opportunities. Although Luke was initially against the idea, Lando was able to persuade him to accompany Lando on a visit to three possible wives Lando had picked out so that Lando could show off his important position.

The two shortly left for the first woman, a widow named Karia Ver Seryan on the planet Leria Kerlsil. Lando found her to be exactly what he was looking for and was in the process of marrying her when R2-D2 and C-3PO arrived and informed them that Karia was in fact a life-witch (or a life-bearer). Karia had the ability to prevent her husband from feeling any pain or discomfort but at the cost of only five more years of life. Lando and Luke quickly left to seek out the next prospect wife.

This too turned out to be a failure. Condren Foreck lived on the planet Azbrian but had got married shortly before the arrival of Luke and Lando and failed to notify them. After an awkward exchange, Luke and Lando left a planet without a wife for Lando once again.

Lando’s next potential wife was a woman named Tendra Risant on the planet Sacorria in the Corellian sector. In order to prevent the trip to be yet another failure, Luke encouraged Lando to pay Tendra a holonet call before they arrived. Lando found that he could easily converse with Tendra and they quickly began talking about a multitude of subjects. When the Lady Luck landed on Sacorria, the conversation quickly continued but was cut short after a meal when Sacorrian police ordered Luke and Lando to leave the planet immediately. Lando and Tendra agreed to communicate with each other via radio on a set date when Lando would be on Sacorria’s moon.

Luke and Lando moved on to Corellia where they planned to meet Han, Leia, Chewbacca and the children for the Trade Summit but, upon arrival, found the largest interdiction field in known history forming. Realizing that something was drastically wrong, Luke told Lando to turn the Lady Luck around and head back to Coruscant to get help.

Star Wars

Darth Vader

Anakin Skywalker is considered «the Chosen One» of the force; whom is supposed to destroy the Sith. Anakin Skywalker was born without a father and lived most of his life on Tatooine with his mother, Shmi. When Qui-Gon Jinn came to the planet looking for parts for their ship back to the Jedi Council, Anakin won them the parts and also his freedom, but only with one flaw in the plan — his mother had to stay on Tatooine as a slave. Years later, Anakin became the apprentice of Obi-Wan Kenobi and married the ex-queen of NabooPadme Amidala.

Legacy of the Chosen One

Near the end of the Clone Wars, Anakin became very obsessed at saving his family. Learning that his wife and unborn child were going to die though a vision, Anakin was determined to find the power save his loved ones. At this moment, Sith Lord Darth Sidious made Anakin join the newfound Empire as his new Sith Apprentice, Darth Vader. Anakin killed most of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy, except for Yodaand Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan tried to kill Anakin, but only left him near the lava planet of Musafar badly injured. Anakin survived, through the mechanations of Emperor. More machine than man, Anakin forever became Darth Vader and served his master as the Empire’s Mailed Fist.

The Dark Lord of the Sith

Along with the entire Star Wars universe, Darth Vader (or Anakin) was created by George Lucas. However, at the time Darth Vader was the main portrayal of the character, than Anakin Skywalker (but it has been said that George worked on Anakin’s model before they started Vader). Vader’s mask was drawn by Ralph McQuarrie who drew the concept for the Darth Vader space suit. After many alterations to Vader’s mask, Ralph finally got a design that George liked, and soon Brian Muir started to design the rest of Vader from the head down. With the success of Star Wars IV: A New Hope, George Lucas began to look for a writer to help him with the fifth, technically second, movie. Writer Leigh Brackett helped George create the second installment of Star Wars, and everything was perfect, except that the fact that Vader was not going to reveal that he was the father of Luke. Before the movie script was finished, Leigh Brackett died of cancer, so it was left for George to write the script by himself. In the end, Darth did tell Luke that he was his father. George began looking at a backstory for Anakin and created the entire story with Anakin having been the student of Obi Wan Kenobi, and the late Qui Gon. The story was clear that Anakin would loose himself to the dark side through a series of events, and eventually become Darth Vader after being badly wounded during the final battle against Obi Wan. Which ultimately completed the «Saga» of Star Wars, episodes 1-6.

Portrayal in Movies

The man under Vader’s suit was played by David Prowse, his stunt double (Bob Anderson) preformed all of the fight scenes, Sebastian Shaw played as Vader in the final moments of Darth Vader’s life at the end of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and James Earl Jones voiced Darth Vader.

Character Evolution

From Slavery to Freedom

Anakin Skywalker was a young slave boy who lived on the desert planet Tatooine. He lived with his mother Shmi and worked as a slave for a Toydarian junk dealer named Watto. Anakin was an exceptional mechanic, managing to build a protocol droid C-3PO. He was also skilled in piloting. All in all, it was a rather normal life for a slave.

Anakin’s world was shaken up when the Jedi Master Qui-Gon JinnPadme AmidalaR2-D2, and Jar Jar Binks came to Tatooine. Master Jinn immediately recognized something massive in Anakin. Deeply connected to the Force and with a high midi-chlorian count, he had the potential to become the strongest Jedi Knight ever. As it turned out, the party was stranded on the planet because their hyperdrive broke down. While searching they went to a repair shop and met Anakin. Anakin agreed to help them by winning a podrace in the Boonta Eve Classic. Qui-Gon Jinn made a bet for Watto, That if Anakin wins he would be free. Waddo accepted the bet. After winning the race largely due to his Force skills, Anakin was freed and left to train and become a Jedi. While aboard the ship, he developed a fascination with Padme and gave her a Japor snippet to remember him by. He was then brought before the Jedi Council who, despite his high midi-chlorian count, denied the request because he was too old and emotionally attached. Meanwhile, the evil Darth Sidious had sent his apprentice Darth Maul after the two Jedi Knights. They went to Coruscant, narrowly escaping Maul at each turn. When the time came to strike at the Trade Federation, Anakin took refuge in a starfighter cockpit and was accidentally whisked into the space battle with Artoo. He managed to accomplish what the other Naboo pilots could not; destroy the Droid Control Ship with well-placed proton torpedoes. Unfortunately, Qui-Gon was killed in a duel with Darth Maul. After Obi-Wan killed the Sith Lord, he was made a fully-fledged Jedi Knight and was granted permission from the Council to train the boy.

Life as a Jedi

Although Obi-Wan trained him well, Anakin had a natural violence within him. He was rash and unthinking–and he feared losing the ones he loved very much. However, he proved to be a great Jedi Knight, and the greatest star fighter pilot in the galaxy. Speculation arose that he might be the Chosen One–the one who would destroy the Sith Peerage once and for all. As a Padawan, he had a mission to protect Senator Padme Amidala from an attempt on her life by the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

During this, he brooded over his mother Shmi and wanted her, so he traveled to Tatooine to see her. But when he got there, he realized that Tusken Raiders had tortured murdered her. Anakin slaughtered an entire tribe of Tuskens, even the women and children of the tribe, in a blind rage; he was turning to the Dark Side. It was also during this time that he had started a romance with Padme. When Obi-Wan was captured on Geonosis, Anakin and Padme set out to rescue him. However, they were captured along with Obi-Wan and the three were sentenced to death. They managed to hold their own until Mace Windu and his Jedi strike force came and saved them, along with clone troopers. When Anakin and Obi-Wan pursued the Separatist leader Count Dooku, Padme fell and the two Jedi had an brief argument.

Anakin and Obi-Wan soon caught up with the count, but Anakin impatiently charged and was blasted with Dooku’s Force lightning. After Obi-Wan was wounded in a fight, Anakin recovered and saved his Master from Dooku’s attack. The Padawan then fought off the count with two lightsabers before having his right arm severed to Dooku’s blade. The two would have died if it had not been for Yoda‘s intervention. After that skirmish, he married Padme in a secret marriage ceremony with C-3PO and R2-D2 as his only witnesses.

War Hero

During his Padawan years, Anakin would participate in numerous Clone War battles. He would encounter Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress whom he defeated on the temples of Yavin IV. It is during this Clone Wars period that he would be knighted, albeit in a controversial decision. After this, he would have a second encounter with Asajj Ventress and persevere, but not before receiving facial scars in the duel. He would then temporarily be assigned Ahsoka Tano as his new Padawan.

Anakin and Obi-Wan would then be assigned a crucial mission; to save Chancellor Palpatine who had been kidnapped by General Grievous. The Jedi stormed the Separatist flagship Invisible Hand and found the Chancellor there guarded by Count Dooku. The Jedi engaged Dooku in combat and the count managed to render Obi-Wan unconscious. Anakin fought Dooku alone and beat away until he cut off the count’s hands. Palpatine then goaded Anakin into beheading Dooku. The Jedi then were captured by General Grievous before resuming attack. But Grievous had escaped and Anakin managed to pilot the ship to Coruscant. Anakin then met Padme who then told him she got pregnant. However, Anakin feared losing her as he had lost his mother. «Fear leads to anger; anger to hate; hate to suffering,» said Yoda who recognized that the boy might be on the path to the Dark Side. He started to distrust those around him, and he loathed the Jedi Order when he felt they wronged him because even though he got a seat on the Jedi Council, he was not granted the title Jedi Master; a title he needed to access restricted Jedi holocrons to save Padme. He also was taken in by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, who was secretly a Sith Lord. Palpatine gained Anakin’s trust and loyalty, only to have Anakin learn that he was the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. Palpatine told him, however, that with Sith powers, he could become immortal and stop other people from dying. Anakin reported this discovery to Mace Windu who would lead a strike force to arrest the Chancellor, but then thought about the power promise and flew over to the Chancellor’s office. Master Windu had Palpatine at bladepoint and was barraged by the Sith’s Force lightning. Anakin was torn between loyalty and supposed power to save Padme, but he had made his decision and hastily severed Windu’s sword arm. After Palpatine killed the Jedi Master, he assured Anakin that he was fulfilling his destiny. Anakin then pledged loyalty to the Sith and became Palpatine’s new apprentice Darth Vader.

Duel of Fates

The Chancellor then gave him a mission to assault the Jedi Temple in Operation: Knightfall. Vader did this without question, leading the 501st Legion in the raid. Many Jedi and younglings were slaughtered in the brutality. Vader’s next mission was to travel to Mustafar and kill the Separatist leaders, including Nute Gunray.

He would later reveal his dark motives for the future to Padme. Due the unfortunate arrival of Obi-Wan, Vader violently attacked his wife with the Force and engaged his former master in a lightsaber duel. Despite his great skill, Vader lost to Obi-Wan, losing his legs and his left arm as a result. He was also burnt by the lava and suffered burns that nearly killed him. It was the timely arrival of his new master, Emperor Palpatine, that saved his life. Vader would be transported to a medical facility on Coruscant where he was rebuilt in to a cyborg. Believing he was the one responsible for killing his wife and child, Vader would forever become devoted to the Emperor and the Dark Side, with his heart as cold as ever.

Iron Fist of the Empire

The Dark Lord Rises

For almost twenty years, Vader became known as the legendary face of the Galactic Empire, his reputation forever known and feared thoughout the galaxy. Vader has spent most of the years hunting down the last of the Jedi knights and masters, while (just like in Sith tradition) secretly plotting to overthrow his master…

Unbeknowest to Vader, Padme died giving birth to twins, Luke and Leia. Luke was watched over by his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru (and secretly Obi-Wan), while Leia was taken under the care of Bail Organa and became a princess of Alderaan.

Darth Vader and the Ninth Assassin

Darth Vader vs the Ninth Assassin

When Darth Vader murders the son of a very wealthy man, he pledges to pay his revenge to the Dark Lord. The man paid eight assassins to kill Vader and all of them failed. Darth Vader disposed of them each with ease. The man decided to dig deep into his pockets to pay for one the most expensive assassins in the galaxy when he hired the man only known as the ninth assassin. The ninth assassin proved to be a worthy foil to Vader and even impressed the Dark Lord himself who repetively offered him a position with the Empire. The ninth assassin ultimately failed and Darth Vader moved on having escaped another attempt on his life.

Rise of the Rebellion

Darth Vader found a secret apprentice during the reign of the Empire. On a mission from Palpatine on suspicions of a Rouge Jedi on the planet Kashyyyk, Vader discovered this apprentice. His father Kento Marek, the Rouge Jedi, had escaped Order 66 and had traveled through many planets on his way to Kashyyyk were the Rouge had eventually stayed. After confronting Kento and killing him, Vader took the boy from the prying eyes of Palpatine. After years of training, Vader saw it fit to let his apprentice to hunt down the last of the Jedi. When Starkiller completed his tasks, Vader was ready to initiate his plan to destroy the Emperor. Unfortunately, the Emperor found out and had tailed Starkiller’s plane until reaching Vader’s private spacecraft. When the Emperor arrived, Vader betrayed and killed his Starkiller to show his loyalty to his master. He left his Apprentice alive though and when the Emperor left, Vader retrieved Starkiller from the depths of space.

Vader’s Secret Apprentice

He then revived his apprentice and explained his plan for the next attempt which was to start a rebellion. Then he sent his apprentice off. He did not realize though that his Apprentice had feelings for the Pilot Juno Eclipse who had been labeled a traitor to the Empire. Starkiller then broke Juno out of the restraints she was hidden in and started on his mission. Eventually, Starkiller would discover that Vader never planned to overthrow Palpatine at all (or at least with him). It was all part

of the Emperor’s plan to expose the Empire’s enemies. Vader would later capture the Rebel Alliance and defeat his apprentice once more, but that would prove to be his undoing. Starkiller survived and confronted Vader and the Emperor in the Death Star, sacrificing his life to allow the Rebels to fight another day. Because of Starkiller’s actions, the Rebel Alliance was formed and ready to engage the Empire in a vicious Galactic Civil War.

For the next few years, Vader would be tasked by the Emperor to quell the attacks from the Rebel Alliance, with little effort.

A New Hope

The ruthless cyborg pursued Princess Leia and the Rebels for the stolen Death Star plans. The Empire pursued the Rebels straight back to Vader’s homeworld, which the princess was able to transfer plans to an astromech droid and send it off to the planet. Vader captured the princess and later brought her to the Death Star, where he and Grand Moff Tarkin interrogated her on the location of the hidden Rebel base. Vader tortured his daughter and forced to see her home planet of Alderaan destroyed. Vader also played a part in the execution of Owen and Beru Lars. As Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Obi-Wan, and Chewbacca were captured by the Death Star tractor beam, Vader sensed his former master’s presence. He eventually confronted his master in one final duel. Despite Obi-Wan’s warning, Vader struck him down but not before Obi-Wan became a spirit of the Force. Vader allowed Luke and his comrades to escape so he could finally locate the hidden Rebel base. Once the plan worked, the Imperials prepared for battle and confronted the incoming Rebel fleet. During the Battle of Yavin, Vader decided to personally destroy the Rebel starfighters himself. The Sith Lord nearly destroyed the entire Rebel fleet and was close to destroying Luke Skywalker, but interference from the Millennium Falcon would cause one of his support fighters to swerve into Vader’s fighter, sending him spiraling away into space.

The Civil War Escalates

Vader would return to the Empire and continue his efforts to hunt down the Rebel Alliance and the mysterious Luke Skywalker, who started to plague his mind with so many questions. He would never come into account that Luke and Leia were his children until much later.

The Empire Strikes Back

Three years after the Death Star had been destroyed, the Empire destroyed the Rebel Base on Hoth VI. The Empire had gained strength, so as Luke traveled to Dagobah, in whose swamps Yoda now made his home, to become Yoda’s apprentice and continue his training in use of the Force, Han Solo and Leia Organa traveled to Cloud City, in the Bespin system, to meet Han’s old friend Lando Calrissian. However, Vader had tracked the heroes to Cloud City with the help of the Mandalorian bounty hunter Boba Fett and forced up a deal that meant that the Baron Administrator betray them, and the Dark Lord captured them. Vader, wanting to capture Skywalker, decided to test the carbonite freezing on Han Solo, who proved to have a price on his head thanks to Jabba the Hutt, and Fett took him to Jabba.

No, I am your father!

Luke reached Cloud City to save Han or Leia — but he would eventually engage Vader in a lightsaber battle. Vader’s power was much more vast than Luke’s, but he did not kill Luke because he wanted Luke to turn to the Dark Side and become an ally of the Empire. They fought, and Vader eventually slashed off Luke’s hand at the wrist, over a balcony, causing Luke to lose the lightsaber that Anakin had meant for him long ago. Vader eventually revealed to Luke his true parentage, but Luke chose death over life as Vader’s son, and he let go and fell. He barely survived and escaped Vader and the Empire, much to the Dark Lord’s dismay.

Return of the Jedi

More than six months passed. The Emperor formulated a trap to destroy the Rebel Alliance and convert Luke into the Dark Side of the Force. When Luke traveled to the moon of Endor where Vader and the Emperor were, he revealed his acceptance of the fact that Vader had once been Anakin Skywalker, his father, and tried to draw his father back where Kenobi had failed. But aboard the unfinished second Death Star, the Emperor proved to be a dark influence to Luke even when the father and son engaged in their final lightsaber duel. Vader gains the upper hand until Luke taps into the Dark Side to subdue his father in combat, slicing of his arm. When Luke refused to turn, the Emperor fired Force lightning at him, and was about to kill him as Vader watched. As Luke was being electrocuted, he moaned, «Father, please help me!»

All the while, Anakin Skywalker had been fighting that which made him Darth Vader. Successfully overcoming what had made him Vader, Anakin seized the Emperor and threw him into the Death Star’s power core. Unfortunately, the lightning short-circuited Anakin’s cybernetics. He then died after killing the Emperor and saving his son, who unmasked him to find that his father had still been essentially human all the time.

No matter how evil Darth Vader had been, Anakin Skywalker died a hero. His ghost was seen at the Endor celebration.

Powers and Abilities

Lightsaber skill

Originally one of the most skilled duelists during the Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker was a prodigy at a young age who mastered Form V of lightsaber combat; Djem So in particular. In his first serious lightsaber battle against Count Dooku, he impressed the count as he demonstrated knowledge of Jar’Kai and outperformed his master, Obi-Wan. Later on, Anakin would fight the Dark Sider Asajj Ventress on Yavin 4 and would beat the skilled assassin. He’d frequently spar with his old master Obi-Wan as well as do rematches with Asajj Ventress and Count Dooku

As a Sith, Vader had to rebuild his style due to his new suite, using a more hybrid form. He was much stronger and much more pain and damage resistant, but he significantly lacked the agility and speed he once had, two skills indispensable for a style such as Djem So.

Since he became the enforcer of Palpatine, Vader’s main task would be to fight Jedi. But his new body, and his new way of living never stopped him, as he already, few weeks after he got himself into his new suite, killed dozens of jedi, including a jedi master. Over the course of his career as a Sith Lord, Vader would come into conflict with renowned Jedi like Roan Shryne and Dark Woman, uncovered the ancient Jedi Celeste Morne whom he then proceeded to best in combat, and stalemate his son – Luke Skywalker.

Force powers

Vader had the highest midi-chlorian count in the galaxy, surpassing 20.000. With this, he had the potential to surpass Emperor Palpatine and Grandmaster Yoda. However, after his injuries on Mustafar, Vader lost most of his potential. He was still amazingly powerful. it should be mentioned that Darth Vader had an ancient sith amulet build in his armored glove. The amulent allowed him to use the force more efficiently, making him significantly more powerful in the force than he originally was.

Vader demonstrating his iconic Force Choke to ragdoll Jace Dallin

He could send out Force Waves of outstanding mangitude, sending people flying through the air; could telepathically probe Jedi; can, while amped, form Kinetite; can use Tutaminis to deflect blaster bolts; can heal himself through his sheer rage.

His favored ability, however, is Force Choke, which he can use from across the galaxy.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi started out as a simple farm boy, before his parents discovered that he seemed to have «unnatural powers». So they brought him to a Jedi Knight. The Knight realized that Obi-Wan had a strong connection to the Force, and he had a high amount of midi-chlorine’s. Obi-Wan went to the Jedi Temple-where he was a star. He displayed amazing skill and potential, and he graduated at the very top of his class. When the Jedi Knights came, looking for apprentices, Obi-Wan was snapped up by the most prolific one: Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Qui-Gon taught his apprentice well. He nourished and enhanced Obi-Wan’s connection to the Force, and soon a strong bond developed between the two. They became more than apprentice and master-they became friends. Things got hectic, though, when Qui-Gon was assigned to see what was happening in the Trade Federation ship with the Viceroy and his assistant. They threatened the Queen, and the two had to protect her. Meanwhile, the evil Darth Sidious was after the two, and he sent his apprentice Darth Maul to capture and kill the Knights. They rescued Queen Padme Amidala on Naboo, but they were running out of fuel. So they stopped in Tatooine-a rocky, desert planet where Hutts, Pod Racing, and slaves were the thing. While there, they met a young boy who would change the entire galaxy-Anakin Skywalker.

Anakin was a young slave boy, whose only future seemed to be working his life away for Watto-a Toydarian junk dealer that sold ship parts. But when Qui-Gon saw him, he immediately recognized that Anakin had the strongest potential for the Force of anyone. He could be The Chosen One. The One who would finally destroy the Sith. Anakin won his freedom in a Pod Race, but he had to leave his mother as he went with the Knight, Obi-Wan, and the princess. The spying Darth Maul, a Sith who had potential equal to Obi-Wan’s, caught up to them-but they barely escaped. Obi-Wan then traveled to Corusant with Qui-Gon and the boy where the Jedi Council interviewed Anakin. After Qui-Gon decided to train the boy, they decided to go back to Naboo to take back the city of Theed from the Trade Federation. They fought their way into the Theed Palace until they were intercepted by the evil Darth Maul.

Darth Maul was one of the most powerful apprentices the Sith had seen in a long time thanks primarily due to the large amount of time his master-Darth Sidious- had invested in him. He was only an apprentice at this stage and had accessed a fraction of his available power. If things had gone differently, he might have become a Sith Lord nearly equal to Lord Sidious. To make things worse, he wielded a double-bladed lightsaber. The two Jedi engaged the Sith in battle around the Palace, and both sides seemed to be holding their own. Unfortunately the security fields separated Obi-Wan from the other two. When they fought alone, Maul was too good-he distracted Qui-Gon Jinn and stabbed him through the abdomen. Obi-Wan was devastated-and Darth Maul fought him alone. Maul beat on him and knocked him to the edge of a pit. As Obi-Wan clung for dear life at the edge- the Sith apprentice kicked Ob-Wan’s lightsaber into the pit. Obi-Wan was seemingly defenseless but using the force leaped over Maul and commanded his former master’s lightsaber to fly to his hand. By the time Darth Maul realized what was going on, it was too late. Obi-Wan had sliced the Sith in two and watched as both sides plummeted into the abyss. Qui-Gon was barely alive, but his last words were for Obi-Wan to become Anakin’s master. «Train the boy. Train him» Obi-Wan listened as Qui-Gon died.

Obi-Wan went back to Anakin and explained what happened. At first Yoda was skeptical- granting him the rank of Jedi Knight but not as the boy’s master. Yoda reluctantly concedes upon learning that Obi-Wan gave Qui-Gon his word to train Anakin. Obi-Wan later solemnly attends the funeral pyre of his master and friend; feeling more comfortable knowing that he fulfilled Qui-Gon’s dying wish.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was created by George Lucas and first appeared in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. His first comic appearance was Star Wars #1

Character Evolution

Throughout his time as a Jedi Obi Wan has undergone complete changes in his character, personality and traits, primarily due to his increasing maturity, but also in part due to the grief and sorrow surrounding him.

In his first appearance in the Phantom Menace Obi Wan is still a Padawan to the great Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. He is quite similar to Anakin Skywalker when he was a padawan, as they both share traits such as their arrogance, confidence, audacity, tenacity, jealousy and passion. Obi Wan displays his first outward sign of jealousy towards anakin as he feels as though his master is giving the boy more attention than to himself.

Legendary Jedi Knight

Following the death of his master at the end of the first episode, Obi Wan is forced to mature and deal with the grief and anguish thrust upon him, as he loses the only fatherly figure in his life. This is the first and the biggest of the changes that Obi Wan undergoes. His dead master has left him with the last request to train the boy whom he was envious of and against the council’s wishes. This turns him into a far more mature and responsible character as he now has to set an example to his padawan and lead by example, and display all the virtues of a good master in order to do Qui-Gon Jinn proud.

Through his development as a master to Anakin he begins to become more embroiled with politics and becomes somewhat of a diplomat, and earning the respect and admiration of many Senators and Rulers.

After the fall of his only padawan (Anakin) to the Dark Side Obi Wan experiences his another serious change. He is shaken to the core by the actions of his padawan and their reprecussions, and feels as though the execution of Order 66 and the death of the Jedi and the rise of the sith is all his fault. He like Yoda in shame places a self-imposed exile on himself on Tatooine, which wil serve a dual purpose of also eatching of his padawan’s son. His solitude and age leads to the waning of his power and he decides to teach Luke and confront Darth Vader before he is too weak.

During his short time training Luke he imparts all of the Jedi rules, codes morals and aims and teaches him proper values and the true Jedi ways. It is thanks to the teachings of Obi Wan and Yoda that Luke becomes the Jedi he was born to be and overthrows the Sith an restores the Jedi. In Luke is his greatest success.

As a Master

Master and Apprentice

Anakin got older, and a bond developed between them. They were almost like brothers in fact. It was similar to the bond that had once grown between Obi-Wan and his Master: Qui-Gon Jinn. They went on missions together, and Anakin proved to be invaluable in saving Obi-Wan’s life. However, Anakin also grew reckless and didn’t think before he acted so Obi-Wan often had to keep him in check. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan was growing stronger in his connection to the Force and in his skill as a fighter and lightsaber wielder. He was nearing his prime- so to speak, but still visited Yoda and other high, old Masters for advice. He became a fully-fledged Jedi Knight and a Jedi Master in the Council. However, he soon realized that the Separatists were about to launch a new plot to take down the good system that ruled the universe-so he and Anakin went back into action.

Count Dooku (also known as Darth Tyrannus) was another powerful Sith unbeknownst to the Jedi. He had been the student of Yoda who turned away from the Jedi Order and joined the rising force known as the Separatists, and he joined the Separatist movement as the leader. Dooku’s new master was none other then the Dark Lord Sidious himself, who had recovered quickly from the loss of Darth Maul- now sporting a new apprentice to do his bidding. Obi-Wan and Anakin kept their tight bond, but Anakin had problems with the Dark Side-which you will read about later.

Obi-Wan saw that new soldiers were being «recruited» for the Republic- clones of the renowned Mandalorian bounty hunter: Jango Fett from the planet Kamino. This bounty hunter, Obi wan guessed, was one who planned the assassination on the former queen of Naboo; Senator Amidala. Fett and Obi-Wan battled soon after meeting each other on Kamino. They fought a ferocious battle in which Obi-Wan was also fired upon by Jango’s son Boba. Fett’s skill and weapons were not enough to kill the Jedi and he attempted to escape, however, Obi-Wan threw a tracking device onto the hull of Jango’s ship-the Slave I.

After realizing the Jedi was still on his tail. Jango and Obi wan engaged in an intense space battle through an asteroid field. Jango had shown that he was winning very early in the fight. Obi-Wan was under constant fire and Jango had many tricks up his sleeve such as the explosive charges that he ejected from his ship. Jango soon decided to end the fight an fired two homing missiles at Obi-Wan’s ship. Luckily, Obi-Wan ejected projectiles from his ship just in time to intercept them; making it look like he had been hit and deceiving the bounty hunter. This is one of the finest displays of Obi-Wan’s flying abilities and is a real testament to his character as he achieved this feat despite constantly bemoaning about how he «hates flying».

Obi-Wan followed the Slave I to Geonosis were many Separatist ships had gathered. He soon spotted Count Dooku and several Separatist leaders. He quickly sent the Council a report on the situation but was taken hostage by the Separatists. Count Dooku met him in his holding chamber and asked hm why he was there. Obi told him most of his story cautiously while Count Dooku told him that a «Sith Lord named Darth Sidious» was in control of the Republic. This statement would prove to have an unexpected and terrible truth to it later on.

Unfortunately Obi-Wan was brought to an arena where he was put in a horrific position; tied to a pole where he was met by his apprentice, Anakin, and Padme who had disobeyed orders to try and and help him. They were trapped as a Nexu a Reek and an acklay came out to eat them in the gladiator style arena. With the skill of the two Jedi and surprisingly battle ready Padame, they were able to free themselves and fight off the arena monsters. Numerous soldiers, clones, Jedi Knights, and droids busted in-and a full-scale war let loose. Mace Windu was among the Jedi there, and Count Dooku was at the battle. Many Jedi died that day, but they won. Obi-Wan and Anakin escaped back into a temple-where they found Count Dooku waiting for them. It was during this confrontation where Jango Fett who skirmished with Obi-Wan earlier ultimately met his demise.

Following this, Obi-Wan and Anakin caught sight of Dooku fleeing on a speeder. In the ensuing pursuit Padme and a few clones fell off. Anakin demanded the ship turn around, however Obi-Wan reasoned with his student and they continued. Upon reaching the hangar, Obi-Wan warned Anakin not to be too headstrong. Anakin ignored this and was nearly killed with a blast of Force Lightning from Count Dooku. Obi-Wan had met his match with Dooku who had just overpowered Obi-Wan and Anakin when Grand Master Yoda appeared to save the Jedi.

Legend of the Clone Wars

The Negotiator

During the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan gained the rank of Jedi Master on the Jedi High Council and general in the Grand Army of the Republic. Obi-Wan would also watch the grown his apprentice as Anakin took a padawan of his own. Obi-Wan would also endure hardships during the war, from battling the bounty hunter Durge, dealing with the Mandalorian Death Watch, and once more facing his old enemy, Darth Maul.

Anakin’s Fall to the Dark Side

Throughout this period of time, though, Obi-Wan’s apprentice-Anakin-was getting closer to the Dark Side. He cared deeply about those he loved-and he feared losing them so much that it put him on the path to the Dark Side. The most obvious example being Padme whom he married in secret and who was the cause of much fear and anxiety for Anakin which Obi-Wan unfortunately didn’t realise fast enough.. While Obi-Wan was at the cloning factory and fighting the bounty hunter Jango Fett, Anakin had gone on an independent mission to see Tatooine-for he wanted to see his mother. When he arrived at his home he was informed his mother had been kidnapped. Sand People had savagely beaten her-she was near death. She died in her son’s arms. Anakin flipped, so to speak. In a blind rage, he murdered the entire Sand People: tribe-men, women, and children. Obi-Wan felt this disturbance in the Force with Anakin, and he tried to control it, however did not entirely succeed.

Near the end of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan and Anakin went on a mission to find General Grievous- the new leader of the Separatist movement and Emperor’s apprentice. He had taken Chancellor Palpatine (a high-ranking politician who was secretly the Emperor) hostage. While there, they found their old nemesis-Count Dooku. They fought Dooku, and he knocked out Obi-Wan. Anakin fought him savagely, and got him in a death pose. At Palpatine’s urging; he killed his nemesis. Anakin fostered a friendship with Palpatine, while talking to the Jedi Council. They allowed him a place on the Jedi Council-but did not grant him the rank of Master. Anakin was livid, and nothing Obi-Wan did could cool him down. Eventually, Anakin got on the path to the Dark Side, as the Chancellor told him that Sith could bring people back to life. Anakin then found out that Palpatine was a Sith Lord, Darth Sidious. He alerted Mace Windu, and the Jedi Master defeated Palpatine after a grueling battle. But at the last second, Anakin’s allegiance to Emperor and ties to the Dark Side won. He severed Mace Windu’s sword arm and with it, his ties to the Jedi Order. Giving himself to the Dark Side of the Force, he became Darth Vader.

During this time Obi-Wan had been dispatched to Utapau to find and kill General Grievous, and disrupt the Separitist movement. After a tough battle, Obi-Wan in a similar situation to his fight against Darth Maul, used the force to summon Grievous’ pistol and shot him dead with it. This is considered one of his greatest triumphs. He was here when Order 66 came in, and narrowly escaped with his life.

A student’s fall

Obi-Wan simply noticed that Anakin was growing darker. But he saw tapes of Darth Vader helping Palpatine and being on the Dark Side-killing younglings in the Jedi Temple. Vader traveled to Mustafar-and Obi-Wan was sent there. Vader attacked Obi-Wan-but in a huge battle, but Obi-Wan defeated him and severed his left arm and legs. Had he not severely wounded his former padawan like he did, the galaxy would have had to face a much more powerful Vader in the future. Vader nearly burned to death there, but Obi-Wan let him live however not before taking his lightsaber. He was found by Palpatine, who encased him in a black obsidian-based suit. Obi-Wan went back with Padme, who was now Anakin’s pregnant wife. She had two babies; Luke and Leia. She then died in childbirth, so Obi-Wan delivered Luke to Anakin’s stepbrother Owen Lars and his wife, who were farmers in the Tatooine desert.

There Obi-Wan stayed-growing stronger in the Force while growing old. He lived alone, as Ben Kenobi on Tatooine- an old man. This lasted for over twenty years…until our story of Obi-Wan picks up again.

Return and Death

Obi-Wan lived in solitude as Ben Kenobi in Tatooine for so long. But suddenly, he felt a great change in the Force-like something was about to happen, and he heard the Sand People making a disturbance outside. When he went out, he found a young teen, Luke Skywalker , being attacked by Sand People. He drove them off, and went with the boy back to his house. However, when he got there, storm troopers had destroyed Luke’s home and killed his uncle and aunt, who had raised him. Luke was devastated-but he decided to go with Ben to avenge his foster parents and father and fulfill his role as a Jedi. They went into a bar, and Ben demonstrated his power as a Jedi-he cut off the hand of an unruly patron. There they met Han Solo-a renegade pilot who needed money and had many people after him. Ben explained to Luke that he could be a Jedi like him-and that he needed to be the hero to bring down the Empire. The evil Empire ruled the galaxy, and it’s leader Darth Vader was the evil tyrant who led it. And Ben told Luke, that Vader killed his father.

The four left, and they found the Death Star in space-a huge space station the size of a small planet. It could obliterate planets-and it killed Leia’s home planet, Alderaan. The Death Star pulled the millenium falcon in using a tractor beam , and they escaped from the storm troopers. They split up. Ben went alone to disable the tractor beams and shields-while the other three went to find away to destroy the Death Star or escape and rescue Leia. While they were escaping, Ben had shut down the shields, where he ran into none other than Anakin Skywalker, his old apprentice who later became Darth Vader, the apprentice of The Emperor. They fought evenly, and they had both grown in skill since their ferocious fight on Mustafar. As they fought, Luke suddenly found them fighting. Obi-Wan Kenobi wanted Luke to hate evil and push him away from the Dark Side. So he set down his lightsaber and became one with the force momentarily before Darth attacked him.

Duel on the Death Star

Obi-Wan Kenobi was dead. He had sacrificed his life to save Luke from evil, and Luke was devastated. Vader, confident, strode off, and Luke escaped-while filled with anger. Kenobi was successful-Luke was now repelled by the Dark Side and the Empire. And Darth Vader, who he would later learn was his father.

But Obi-Wan was a powerful Jedi, and he possessed the most powerful ability-his spirit could live on when his body was dead. He became what is known as a Force ghost. And so the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi did not end with his death-it merely marked a new chapter in his life.

After death Of Obi-Wan

After his death and rebirth, Obi-Wan did not appear nearly so much as he had in life. The first time he showed himself beyond the grave was when Luke was flying his ship through the tunnel of the Death Star. Luke needed to shoot two bombs directly into two holes in the Death Star. The holes would lead down to the core of the Death Star, and the bombs would explode it, destroying the entire Death Star. Luke had his aiming mechanism on, but he missed twice. He then heard Ben Kenobi’s distinct voice in his ear, telling him «Use the Force, Luke.» He put down the aiming mechanism and used the Force-and the bombs went in. He didn’t hear or see Kenobi’s spirit again until later.

After that, Luke and the other Rebels were holed up in a base on the ice planet Hoth. He was stranded on the ice, having fended off a wampa and. Kenobi appeared to him as a ghost, and told him how to survive, and helped him use the Force to fight off a creature that was attacking him. He then told Luke to go to the swamp planet Dagobah, where a great Jedi Master lived. He told him that the Master’s name was Yoda, and he was the Grand Master of the jedi. Luke went to Dagobah and found Yoda-and Yoda’s training was instrumental in Luke eventually bringing down the Empire.

After that, Kenobi would appear to Luke in times of need, or when he needed help. He tried to discourage Luke from traveling to Cloud City to fight Vader, to bring Han and Leia back. Kenobi appears on Dagobah to explain to a heartbroken Luke why he did not tell him the truth about his father, and to confess that Leia was his sister. Kenobi admits that his own pride had been partly to blame for Anakin Skywalker’s fall from grace: «I thought I could instruct him just as well as Yoda. I was wrong.» He then tries to explain to Luke that killing Vader is the only way to destroy the Empire and save the galaxy- even if it meant killing his own father. This, however, did not come to pass. Instead of Luke killing his father-Darth Vader decided to become Anakin once more and sacrifice himself, fulfilling his destiny. Obi-Wan had not failed Anakin after all.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was a well respected and eloquent diplomat, a wise teacher, a good swordsman, an influential general, and a powerful Jedi.

Powers and Abilities

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s power level has fluctuated over the years, but you can basically divide it into four stages of his life. These stages are when he had different levels of power.

When Obi-Wan was only Qui-Gon Jinn’s padawan, his power level was at it’s lowest. He was still young and not yet in his physical prime, although he was in extremely good shape. His lightsaber skills were also lower as he was still developing as a fighter. He was a great fighter with his saber still, as he defeated Darth Maul. As for Force powers, they were low, his connection to the Force was weaker and he didn’t use many Force moves. He did show use of the Force push during this period.

Young Master

After Qui Gon’s death he became a Jedi knight and trained Anakin. Obi-Wan was at a pretty high level here. This period lasts from when he becomes Anakin’s master to his escapade with Count Dooku on General Grievous’ ship. Obi-Wan was now in his physical prime-his leaping and hand-to-hand skills were amazing. He had a full arsenal of powerful Force moves, like Force Heal, the Jedi Mind Trick, and the impressive ability to absorb Force lightning into his lightsaber. However, he wasn’t quite at his peak with the lightsaber, and same with the Force. He had room to grow on both counts. He also used his environment better and was more resourceful later.

Obi-Wan was at his strongest here. He was still in his physical prime, as you can see from his lightsaber fights during this period. His skill over the Force had grown, and he was widely revered as one of the greatest lightsaber combatant of his time. Obi-Wan could effortlessly use the force to launch and drop huge projectiles upon his foes. He was extremely resourceful and used everything he could in battle. His duel with Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar was possibly the greatest lightsaber duel ever, showing amazing lightsaber skill, physical power, and resourcefulness. He was nearly unmatched during this period.

Old Man

This was Obi-Wan as an old man after he went into exile. His body had deteriorated a great deal, and he was no longer the lightsaber fighter or athlete he used to be. But this Obi-Wan had grown significantly in his mastery over the Force. He was proficient in use of the Jedi Mind Trick and got himself and Luke out of many a jam with this power. He could win most fights with his Force power alone, and he had grown in Force strength beyond his past self. He was smart and resourceful-he won more wars then you’d think he’d be able to at his age.

R2-D2 has many different gadgets that can help him with different tasks. R2 has a electrical zapper to stun enemies, dual jets for maneuvering through the air, a holo projector for showing video, a buzz saw for cutting ropes and such, a manipulator arm that can lift objects and hack into computer networks, and numerous other gadgets.

R2-D2 was built to be maintenance aboard Queen Amidala’s ship. R2 stayed dormant for a while but when Padme was escaping from the blockade around Naboo, their starfighter was damaged. Many different astromech droids went to repair the damage but were blasted away, one by one. In seconds, R2 was the only droid still alive. R2 fixed the damage on the ship and they escaped from the blockade at Naboo. R2-D2 was greatly honored for saving the ship and was cleaned up by Padme (who was pretending to be a servant to the Queen).

R2 joins Qui-Gon-Jinn and Padme as they go out to find a replacement hyperdrive. Later R2 meets C-3PO and they become friends. After Anakin wins the pod-race, R2-D2 and C-3PO go to Corusant to try to win the approval of the court. After this, R2-D2 heads back to Naboo and finds himself in a Naboo starfighter. Anakin and R2 fly off and destroy the huge Trade Federation Control ship.

After working with Anakin and Obi-Wan for ten years, R2 gets back into action. He is a sentry for Padme, but fails to recognize the sneaky Kohunns. Anakin senses that Padme is in danger and saves her from them. R2-D2 accompanies Padme and Anakin as they fly off toward Naboo. They go there but then go the Geonosis, where the battle is taking place. R2-D2 saves C-3PO in the battle of droids versus Jedi and wields C-3PO’s head back onto C-3PO’s body. They win the battle and R2 stays with Anakin.

Three years later, when General Grievous is on the loose, Anakin and R2-D2 fly into battle with Obi-Wan and R4. While Anakin and Obi-Wan look for Palpatine, R2 gets to fight when some super battle droids come in the room. R2 sprays them with oil so the slip and fall down, then R2 torches them with his jets which burns the droids to a crisp. After that he tries to rescue Obi-Wan and Anakin but gets ambushed. After Anakin turns to the dark side, R2 leaves him and gets sold. C-3PO gets his memory wiped, but R2-D2 gets to keep his memory.

C-3PO and R2-D2

After a long twenty years, R2-D2 is active again, working with the rebel alliance. Princess Leia gives R2 the readouts for the Death Star because their ship, Tantive 4, is getting pulled into a star destroyer. R2-D2 gets the information, then uses an escape pod with C-3PO, and doesn’t get shot down because there is no life reading in the pod. R2 and C-3PO travel through the Tatooinedesert and they split up. Both of them get captured by the same Jawa’s though. R2 and C-3PO get sold to Owen Lars and Luke Skywalker. When Luke is cleaning up R2, he accidentally activates a message from Princess Leia. It tells of Leia seeking Obi-Wan’s help. Later, R2 sneaks away in search of Obi-Wan. Luke discovers this and chases him down with his speeder. When R2 is found by Luke, Tusken Raiders ambush Luke and are about to kill him, when Ben Kenobi comes on the seen. Luke comments that he had never seen such devotion in a droid before. When Luke, Ben, C-3PO and R2-D2 find a ride to Alderaan, they take off in the Millenium Falcon, piloted by Han Soloand Chewbacca. After they get captured R2 finds Leia through the computer and Luke and Han go to rescue her. R2 saves all of them from being crushed and they all escape the Death Star. Later, R2 is co-pilot on Luke’s X-Wing, and together they blow up the Death Star.

After the defeat of the first Death Star, the Emperor decides to start building a new one. R2 is at the rebel base on Hoth. The Empire find the rebel base and send down some AT-AT‘s. These huge walkers find the main shield to the base and blow it up. R2 escapes with everyone else.

The Second Death Star is still incomplete, but is now operational. R2 and C-3PO go the Jabba the Huttwith a message and are given over to Jabba also. On a sail barge, R2-D2 and C-3PO, escape just as the whole thing blows sky high. Luke and the others pick them out of the sand and leave the Sarlacc. R2 and C-3PO go with Han, ChewbaccaLeia, and Luke to destroy the Death Star’s shield base on Endor. R2 gets captured by Ewoks, but gets released when C-3PO uses his dark magic. When R2 and the others are breaking into the shield base, a stormtrooper nails R2 with a blaster shot and makes him malfunction. After the second Death Star is demolished, R2-D2 is repaired and lives on as the legend.

R2 is now in the care of Cade Skywalker.

Yoda is respected as one of the most wise and powerful Jedi Masters in the history of the galaxy. Yoda is a master of the Force and Lightsaber combat. Yoda served as the Grand Master of the Jedi High Councilfor over 700 years.

Yoda is a character from the Star Warsfranchise created by George Lucas. Yoda’s face was partially based off of Einstein’s, mainly the forehead wrinkles to make him appear wise and intelligent. Frank Oz, the puppeteer for Yoda in Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Phantom Menace, developed Yoda’s voice, his distinctive way of talking, and even aspects of his personality.

Character Evolution:

Jedi Master Yoda

From a young age Yoda had trained as a Jedi by N’Kata Del Gormo, learning the ways of the Force and keeping balance in the galaxy. Living for 900 years Yoda had worked his way up the ranks of the Jedi Order becoming a member of the Jedi High Council and eventually the Jedi Grand Master.

Before and during the Clone Wars, Yoda was one of the more powerful Jedi in the entire order. He served at teacher and master to most, giving wisdom and guidance to Jedi Knights and Masters alike, while also teaching basics to young padawan learners in training. During the Clone Wars Yoda still served as teacher but was divided between being a general conducting a war throughout the galaxy.

After the Clone Wars and following the Order 66, Yoda went into hiding in the Dagobah System. The planet’s abundance of life masked his presence from the Empire until the arrival of a young Luke Skywalker. After the death of Obi-Wan Kenobi it was left to Yoda to teach Luke more about the force. After nearly becoming a Jedi Knight Luke was baited away from Dagobah and fell into a trap that injured him long enough to suspend his training. He would return to an aged and dying Yoda who admitted his training to become a Jedi was almost complete. Yoda perished and became one with the force, giving him the ability to pass on his knowledge within the force itself.

Early Life

Master Gormo teaching his padawan, Yoda, the ways of the Force

Not much is known of this legendary Jedi Grand Master, It can be presumed details aren’t clear to Yoda either, nine hundred years is a long way to think back to, but some details have been made clear. At Yoda’s early life he didn’t know he was Force-sensitive nor did an unidentified human counterpart know he was tuned with the Force either. The two left their home planet, which has never been identified and still remains a secret, if Yoda remembers the name or what the planet looked like is unknown. Yoda and his friend had set off toward the core worlds to find employment. En-route their old ship was caught amongst by an asteroid and their ship was damaged beyond their ability to repair, which seemed most disastrous at the time.

They would spend days floating around in space, their supplies and oxygen running out quicker than the two wanted them to. In an attempt to save their lives they rebooted their power systems to get them far enough into an unrecognized star system, in which they crash landed on a swamp planet, which can only be presumed as Dagobah but it had never been clarified. with the two’s signal for a rescue ship still going strong all they could do was wait to be picked up, hoping they wouldn’t starve to death in the process. During their stay on the swamp planet the two Force beings were found by Jedi Master N’Kata Del Gormo, who sensed them to be one with the force and revealed to them this power. Not detesting at their age, which was clearly not the age most Jedi started training, Master Gormo taught both Yoda and his human friend the way of the force. Shortly after their training the two Jedi were picked up by a Galactic Republic starship. It is very likely the «rescue» was indeed planed by the Jedi Master N’Kata Del Gormo.

One of his great feats in his early life was his training of young jedi. Most notoriously he trained Count Dooku into an excellent swordsman who’s skills could only be replicated by Yoda and Mace Windu. He also trained Cin Drallig, who was promptly made a master on the council, and during the clone wars was elevated to battlemaster of the council.

Later Life

Master Yoda was the Grand Master of the Jedi and was respected as the most powerful of the jedi. One of the only creatures known to have a higher midi-chlorine count is Anakin Skywalker. Master Yoda spearheaded the decision to deny Qui-Gonn’s request to teach Anakin, believing-correctly as we find out later-that the boy was too attached to his mother.

Master Yoda served the Old Republic for decades maybe even centuries. In this, he would fight against his former padawan Count Dooku. This was one of the most impressive battles Yoda had fought and showed the vast power he held in his small frame. He became a general in the clone army, He would later battle Darth Sidious in the Senate until fleeing and he nurtured and expanded the Jedi Order and taught countless younglings. Master Yoda was one of the survivors of Order 66, at the time he resided upon Kashyyk where he was aiding the Wookie cause, luckily he sensed the 2 clones who arrived to kill him, quickly dispatched them and left with the aid of Chewbacca.

Escape from order 66

Yoda moments before the order was issued.

Master Yoda barely escaped Order 66, only with a backup plan and help from the wookies was he able to escape from Kashyyyk, using an escape pod to the

nearst system, which he then went to coursant from. Master Yoda probably predicted the clones would turn on the Jedi so he had the backup plan of the escape pod. Without the help of Chewbecca and Tarfful, who escorted and defended Yoda.

Following this, he arrived upon the space ship of Senator Bail Organa, a supporter of the jedi and a soon to be foster father of Leia, and Obi-Wan, who at the time was the only other Jedi who was believed to have survived the Purge. Here they realised that the distress beacon at the Jedi Temple was going off and that this was likely luring jedi to their death. Therefore the 2 masters infiltrated the base and turned off the signal, but it was here where they first realised of how far Anakin had descended into the dark side, following his massacre of the younglings.

Master Yoda died on the system of Dagobah at the age of around 900 years old. He died in the presence of Luke Skywalker after Luke asked him to help finish his training.

Powers and Abilities:

Yoda Using the Force

Yoda has been considered the greatest Jedi Master of the era by many, he was one of the most skilled users of the Force in the history of the entire galaxy. Yoda was so strong in the Force that he has demonstrated the ability to effortlessly disarm powerful opponents like the Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress with a simple gesture. In addition to this, Master Yoda was capable of easily controlling individuals and enter into the minds of others and decipher their thoughts with great precision. Despite his small stature, Yoda was capable of extreme telekinetic feats, such as lifting enormous objects with the Force, such as Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing, or a giant pillar which was dropped upon Ankain and Obi-Wan by Dooku, and even disarming the Dark Jedi Asajj Ventress with a mere wave of his hand.

Yoda was a master of all the seven lightsaber forms, and could use the Force to enhance his physical attributes immensely, allowing him to carry a crate with a cannon on his back for miles.

«Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is.«

Han Solo

Han Solo was a cadet in the Empirestationed in a forced labor camp where Wookiees were made to do slave labor for the Empire. It wasn’t long before Han developed disgust for the Empires treatment of the Wookiee people, and his friendship with the Wookiee slave Chewbacca led to Han helping in a prison break. Han and Chewbacca became partners, and the two took smuggling jobs from various people, reputable and otherwise.

Han is something of a gambler as well, winning the starship known as the Millennium Falcon from his friend Lando Calrissan in a high stakes game of Sabacc. But Han’s luck ran out when an Imperial inspection team boarded the Millennium Falcon forcing Han to dump a valuable cargo of spice, a cargo owned by Jabba the Hutt. Han found it difficult to repay the debt, and soon found himself being shaken down by Bounty Hunters.

Han Solo was created by George Lucas. His first appearance in media was the massively-loved Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. His first appearance in a comic book is Marvel Special Edition Featuring Star Wars #2.

The Original Trilogy

Han and his partner Chewbacca on the Millenium Falcon

A New Hope

Soon Han was given a break that seemed too good to be true, an old man willing to pay more then what Han owed to Jabba simply for passage to the planet Alderaan for himself, a farmboy, and a pair of Droids, Han eagerly accepted the offer but was confronted by the bounty hunter Greedo, who made the mistake of talking too much, and was killed by Solo.

Han soon realized there was more to his passengers then meets the eye when a platoon of Sandtroopers tried to prevent their departure from the Mos Eisley spaceport. During the hyperspace flight to Alderaan Han voiced his skepticism of the Force towards Kenobi and Skywalker. Soon after when the Falcon was supposed to exit hyperspace in the Alderaan system, when they were surprised by the unexpected asteroid field which was in fact the remains of Alderaan destroyed by the Death Star. They see a TIE fighter and follow it, intending to shoot it down before it calls in for back up, when the Death Star comes into view. Han famously mistakes the Death Star for a «small moon’, but is soon corrected by Kenobi. They decide to hide out in hidden storage areas used for smuggling, then ambushing a pair of stormtroopers for disguises and sneaking onboard the Death Star.

Obi-Wan leaves to deactivate the tractor beam, while Luke insists on rescuing Princess Leia, convincing Han to follow after the promising a large monetary reward. They handcuff Chewbacca to pretend that they are escorting a prisoner, making their way to the station’s prison cells. On arrival all hell breaks loose and set off all the alarms, but they find her and escape through a vent to the trash compactor, and are narrowly rescued from being crushed to death by the timely intervention of R2-D2. However upon reaching the Falcon and nearly escaping unscathed they witness the death of Kenobi by Darth Vader, but escape to the safety of the Rebel base on Yavin IV.

Han receives a large amount of money for his efforts in receiving the Death Star data and saving Princess Leia. He then planned on leaving to pay off his debts to Jabba the Hutt, after this he has a heated debate with Luke Skywalker and leaves. Later he returns to save Luke Skywalker by shooting down Darth Vader’s TIE fighter above the Death Star, giving Skywalker enough time and space to fire his torpedos. Due to these actions Han received a medal for bravery at the end of A New Hope.

The Empire Strikes Back

At the beginning The Empire Strikes Back Han is repairing the Falcon, which docked in the Rebel Echo Base on Hoth. He is planning on leaving to pay Jabba off again, but before he can word comes in that Luke is missing. Worried for his friend he takes a taun-taun out at night on his own. He finds Luke nearly dead but cannot return to the base when his taun-taun dies from exhaustion. He uses Luke’s own lightsaber to cut it open, forcing Luke into the carcass to stay warm long enough to build a shelter.

They are then rescued in the morning and returned to base. Shortly after Luke’s rapid recovery, the Empire launches an assault and they are forced to flee. In the escape attempt Han and Chewbacca are forced to take Leia and C3-PO with them, as the crumbling base cuts off access to all other evacuation ships. They escape Hoth relatively easily losing the fleet by entering a near by asteroid field and landing on one. Later they find out that this inhabited by a giant space worm and then attach the Falcon to one of the Star Destroyers. Once the Star Destroyer and the rest of the fleet prepare to exit the system the jettison their waste and Falcon drifts off with the garbage. Unbeknownst to Solo and the rest of the crew Boba Fett is in hot pursuit.

They arrive at Cloud City a mining colony controlled by Han’s old friend Lando Calrissian, they are welcomed with open arms and given the finest accommodations. But the Empire had gotten there first due to Boba Fett’s extensive knowledge of Han and had struck a deal with Lando. They are led to Vader and after disarming Solo, Vader sets about torturing him. He is then used as a test subject to see if a human can survive the Carbonite freezing process, but before this is done Leia tells him that she loves him and he replies «I know». Afterwards his frozen body is handed over to the bounty hunter Boba Fett and then sold to Jabba the Hutt.

Return Of The Jedi

Not much is seen of Han until because of his frozen state, later he is released from Jabba the Hutt’s imprisonment by Leia disguised as a bounty hunter. However this is short lived and they are both capture and imprisoned again, Leia as slave and Han with Chewbacca in a cell. They are then transported with Luke to the Sarlacc pit, for sacrificial entertainment.

However the group escape from their captives, thanks to R2-D2 smuggling in Luke’s Lightsaber. During this time Han is suffering from temporary blindness and manages to kill Boba Fett and shoot a Sarlacc tentacle to save Lando. After killing Jabba and escaping from his minions, the group reunite at the Rebel command. Solo is granted a General’s commission and is given command of a small group of rebels to infiltrate the Empire base on Endor and destroy the shield generator. The group fly to Endor on a stolen Imperial Transport and used an old code, however Vader senses his son’s presence on the ship and prepares to leave for Endor himself. During their initial attack Imperial forces the group is separated from Leia and then captured themselves by Ewoks.

The group is later reunited again and join forces with the Ewoks against the Imperials. Unbeknown to Han and the group is that the Emperor knows they are down there and are ready, they are then capture and all looks grim. C3-PO and R2-D2 desperately call the attention of the Imperials, who are then ambushed by a band of Ewoks. The Ewok’s then attack full force leading the Imperials away by stealing speeders and crushing AT-STs with traps. Han then breaks into the shield generator with some help from Chewbacca, blowing it up from the inside out with Terminal Detonators. He is later seen celebrating the defeat of the Empire and acknowledging his love for Leia, on Endor with his close friends and Ewok allies.

C-3PO_droidEarly Years

C-3PO was originally activated on the Cybot Galactica foundry world of Affa in 112 BBY. His more well-known incarnation, however, was «born» on Tatooine around 32 BBY, when he was rebuilt by a young boy named Anakin Skywalker, who came upon the protocol droid’s standard 3PO-series discarded and gutted head and chassis while in a Mos Espa street with friend Kitster Banai.

Later, Anakin decided to smuggle C-3PO home piece by piece. Kitster asked him what use the droid would have at home and Anakin told him that the droid would be used as a servant as a Cybot Galactica protocol droid. Anakin found that the droid’s balance gyro was quite old dating back several decades. Anakin made the droid functional with scrounged and improvised parts; while Threepio boasted a standard protocol droid verbobrain and communicator module, it is unknown whether these parts originated with his chassis, or if they were acquired independently by Anakin. Threepio’s wiring and construction were sound, but Anakin could not afford even the simplest of droid coverings.

Having originally designed him to help his mother, Shmi, Anakin carried Threepio along when he bartered with nearby Jawa traders. On one occasion Anakin came across a wounded Tusken Raider. Due to 3PO’s fluency in millions of languages Anakin was able to nurse the Tusken Raider back to health, though the Tusken Raider was not fond of Threepio, and roared at him to «shut up» in his own language.

In 32 BBY C-3PO met his future partner, R2-D2, Jedi Master Qui-Gon JinnQueen Amidala of Naboo and Jar Jar Binks, whom he characterized as «odd.» Threepio never knew he was «naked» before R2 mentioned it. He was extremely embarrassed by this, but Padmé remarked that the droid was perfect. C-3PO and R2-D2 formed a fast friendship, working together to perfect Anakin’s podracer for the Boonta Eve Classic. The more experienced droid told Threepio of the danger of space travel, to which Threepio proclaimed that no one would get him to go on a starship.

Shortly afterwards, C-3PO became part of Anakin’s pit crew during the Boonta Eve Classic, where he saw Anakin defeat Sebulba. Unfortunately, C-3PO and his master parted ways when Jinn freed the boy after winning a bet with Anakin’s master, Watto. Before parting with his master, Anakin assured the droid that he would make sure Shmi didn’t sell him and said his final goodbye.

In 22 BBY, Shmi was kidnapped by a group of Sandpeople. Sensing that his mother was in danger, Anakin traveled with Padmé to Tatooine where they reunited with Threepio. C-3PO recognized Anakin and Padmé instantly and presented them to Beru Whitesun, Owen, and Cliegg Lars. Once Anakin returned with his mother’s lifeless body, C-3PO attended her small funeral in back of the Lars homestead.

After Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala’s visit to Tatooine, C-3PO left with his old master at Owen’s suggestion, who said it was what Shmi would have wanted. Threepio accompanied his master to the planet of Geonosis to rescue his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Shortly afterwards, he followed R2 after the little droid disobeyed direct orders from Anakin. He found himself in a droid construction facility and, after being pushed onto one of the platforms by his «friend» R2, his head was taken off and temporarily attached to the torso of a B1 battle droid, while the head of the droid was placed onto Threepio’s torso. Due to the combat droid’s programming, Threepio reluctantly participated in the Battle of Geonosis where he was stopped by Kit Fisto. After being rescued by Artoo and reunited with his body, he, with the rest of the Republic, left Geonosis. Not long after, he became one of the three witnesses to Padmé and Anakin’s marriage on Naboo.

C-3PO was given to Senator Amidala as a gift from her husband, Anakin Skywalker. C-3PO served as Senator Amidala’s personal protocol droid for most of the Clone Wars. When on Naboo, Senator Amidala often assigned C-3PO to assist the Naboo Royal Council.[citation needed] Following the defense of Naboo and the bio-plague of Ohma-D’un by the Confederacy, Queen Jamillia appointed the droid to serve as liaison to the Jedi during that campaign. He was a reluctant participant in many adventures of the ex-Queen, including a rather hazardous mission during the Battle of Ilum, where his loyalty was essential in helping Jedi Master Yoda rescue fellow Jedi Luminara Unduli and Barriss Offee.

Often chastising his funny yet rude astromech companion, R2-D2, for being reckless, C-3PO finally earned what he had long desired: his coverings were upgraded from a dull gray to his final shiny bronzium coating due to his tenure as Amidala’s servant. He also, in a meeting of the Loyalist Committee, became the first entity in the galaxy to address Supreme Chancellor Palpatine as «Your Majesty,» perhaps anticipating his future elevation to Emperor. He also severely disapproved of combat droids, once demanding to «have a serious talk with their programmer.»

Near the end of the Clone Wars, Threepio became concerned about Padmé and Anakin’s behavior. He was aware of Padmé’s pregnancy and the meetings she held with the Loyalist Committee, which included Bail Organa and Mon Mothma. After Skywalker and R2-D2 returned from Anakin’s massacre of the Jedi, Threepio and R2 held a quiet discussion about Anakin, but he assured the little droid that he must have been stressed.

However, C-3PO became a witness to his maker’s turn to the dark side of the Force when he accompanied Padmé to Mustafar. When Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s duel moved to the interior of the facility on Mustafar, C-3PO and R2-D2 took it upon themselves to get the injured Senator aboard her cruiser. When Obi-Wan returned to the ship, C-3PO piloted it to the asteroid facility of Polis Massa and witnessed Padmé give birth to the Skywalker twins and die shortly afterwards. C-3PO and R2-D2 fell into the custody of Bail Organa, who ordered his memory wiped on the Tantive IV in order to protect the twins from the Emperor and their father, Anakin Skywalker, who had become the Sith Lord known as Darth Vader. After his memory was erased, Threepio would state that he had first worked with binary loadlifters. Unbeknownst to Threepio, he would later reunite with the Skywalker twins nearly two decades later.

Though he and R2-D2 were officially part of the droid complement of the Tantive IV for the next 19 years, C-3PO also served Alderaan’s royal house, the House of Organa, on Alderaan on occasion. While accompanying them to the Emperor’s Ball, he mistook his maker, now Darth Vader, for a new droid: he was reassigned as a preschool teacher for a year as punishment.

The droid duo’s servitude of the Tantive IV was short lived, however. During a routine drill—supervised by Chief Petty Officer Corla Metonae—that involved the launching of the ship’s escape pods, the Tantive IV was attacked by a pirate group from the Karthakk system. The Corvette was forced to flee, leaving its jettisoned pods behind. It was later discovered that C-3PO and his counterpart were aboard one of the abandoned pods. Bail Organa placed high priority on recovering the droids. Following this alarming event, C-3PO and R2-D2 began being traded around by various owners. They found themselves traveling the galaxy serving a series of different masters, such as Ambassador Zell of Majoor. One owner, a glitterstim smuggler, left the droids on Ingo. It was there that they were owned by Thall Joben and Jord Dusat. This got them involved in a speeder race against none other than bounty hunter Boba Fett. When the droids learned that their masters intended to decline a golden desirable opportunity because they refused to have droids’ memories erased, they secretly left in an escape pod to allow the humans to avoid making that sacrifice After that, the two helped Jann Tosh and Mon Julpa restore the Tammuz-an monarchy. Later, Tosh, on his way to enroll in the Imperial Academy, left the droids on Manda. It was there that they got jobs at a hotel. From there they went to Biitu and were involved with the Great Heep. Mungo Baobab saved them from the Heep and took the droids back to Manda. Later, on Roon, Baobab found some Roonstones which C-3PO told him were etched with the ancient poem Dha Werda Verda. The Roonstone events even led to C-3PO competing in the Roon Colonial Games. When the droids went with Mungo to the Baobab Archives, however, they were separated from him and sold to a used technological goods trafficker.

When another owner, Governor Wena, put the droids up for auction, they ended up going to Hosk Station. Between there and Kalarba, the droids had a number of adventures with Nak Pitareeze and his family, Olag Greck, and Jace Forno. Though Nak would often disrespect him, Threepio nonetheless cared for the boy and his family. When Plag kidnapped Nak and forced him to fix his ships, Threepio and his counterpart came to the rescue and foiled Greck’s plans. One time, Threepio fell out of a speeder and cracked his faceplate. The crude repair job he got afterward was two pieces of tape in the shape of an X. That X on his head led him to be mistaken for C-3PX, an extremely dangerous assassin droid who was wanted in seven systems. Some Hosk Arena promoters who thought Threepio was 3PX tried to make him fight in a droid death match. 3PX later sacrificed himself to save 3PO.

C-3PO and R2-D2 later went with a police droid named Unit Zed to Nar Shaddaa, where Jace Fornoblasted off his left leg below the knee. However, the replacement leg that he got actually contained secret programming that overrode his regular personality. The «new» C-3PO led a droid rebellion against Boonda the Hutt. However, his original programming was later restored when R2-D2 replaced his «possessed» leg. After that, the two droids were owned by an Ithorian botanist named Zorneth and then a diplomat, Councilor Harthan.

Some other masters of the droids during this time included Stigrit Krax, Larka Nimondro, Prince Jagoda, Lott Kemp, Jost Ellon, Vik Idd and Nikki Idd, King Gokus, Van P. Quist, and Tyne. After all their many adventures, the droids finally returned to the Tantive IV. Serving the Rebel Alliance, the droids deactivated an Imperial defense system during the Battle of Wayland, allowing the Alliance Fleet to land on Fresia.

When the Tantive IV came under attack by Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer Devastator, C-3PO and R2-D2 were launched in an escape pod on the orders of Princess Leia Organa to deliver a secret message to Obi-Wan «Ben» Kenobi. On Tatooine, C-3PO and R2-D2 were captured by Jawas, taken into their Sandcrawler, and sold to Owen Lars. In the process of being sold, Threepio managed to convince Owen’s nephew, Luke Skywalker, son of his creator Anakin Skywalker, to buy Artoo. He would be their forty-third master.

During a conversation with Luke, Threepio revealed to the lad that he and his counterpart were well acquainted with the rebellion against the Empire. While cleaning R2-D2, Luke stumbled across the hidden message from Princess Leia, though C-3PO claimed he had no idea whom she was and that it may have been old data. That night, R2-D2 made a daring escape from the homestead after Luke had removed his restraining bolt. C-3PO attempted to stop him but was unsuccessful. He would later join Luke in his search through the Jundland Wastes. When they did find R2, they were attacked by Tusken Raiders, causing C-3PO to stumble over and have his arm ripped off. Thankfully, Obi-Wan Kenobi had found them and assisted them back to his home, although C-3PO said that there was no need to risk themselves on his account.

Soon after being repaired and R2 showing Obi-Wan the message from Leia, they discovered the ruined Sandcrawler and Jawas who had sold him. Luke had sped off to discover that Owen and Beru Lars had been murdered by Imperial stormtroopers, leaving C-3PO and R2-D2 in Luke’s care. After traveling to Mos Eisley while evading stormtroopers, C-3PO and R2-D2 escaped on the Millennium Falcon with Luke, Obi-Wan, the ship’s captain Han Solo, and his first mate Chewbacca, with whom he would assist R2-D2 against in a game of dejarik. After hearing that Wookiees were known to rip peoples’ arms out of their sockets when they lost, he gave R2-D2 one final piece of advice: «let the Wookiee win.»

Threepio and his allies end up on the Death Star after it is found that their destination, the planet Aldreraan, no longer exists. The droids are left behind in a hangar control center while Luke and Han venture off to rescue the princess. Threepio has trouble with the comlink as the trio are endangered by a closing garbage compactor. R2 reverses the compactor, saving their lives, though Threepio thinks the worst has happened. The sacrifice of Obi-Wan allows the group to escape.

The set up with the Rebel Base on Yavin 4. When Threepio realizes that R2 is going with on the Death Star attack, he tells that he’d better make it back or his life would get boring. R2 suffers damage during the successful attack. Threepio offers to donate any of his parts that would be helpful in his repair. R2-D2 was repaired and looked good as new. It is unknown if C-3PO donated any of his parts.

Following the Battle of Yavin, C-3PO accompanied Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca and R2-D2 on numerous missions for the Alliance. On one such mission, Threepio and Luke encountered the bounty hunter Beilert Valance on Feriae Junction while they were looking for parts to repair Artoo. While exploring Junction City, Threepio and Luke met a man named Skinker who took them to his salvage yard. Unaware of Darth Vader’s bounty on himself, Skywalker, and R2-D2, C-3PO and the others fell into a trap. Sensing a trap, Skywalker shoved C-3PO into Skinker’s office and dove in after, and then sent the droid out the back way while he tried to hold off the bounty hunter. As Valance was about to deliver the final blow, C-3PO suddenly reappeared and placed himself in front of his master, willing to sacrifice himself to save Skywalker. The boy in turn, concerned for his droid’s safety, tried to send him away. Valance, not understanding the droid’s actions questioned Threepio. He answered «Certainly it’s not widely accepted. But perhaps if it were, even being a cyborg might be easier to bear.» Because of Threepio’s selfless act, the bounty hunter left them, allowing C-3PO to pick up Skywalker’s fallen lightsaber and carry him back to their ship.

During this time, 3PO served as interpreter for and worked with Leia Organa at the Rebels’ ring base. He traveled with Luke Skywalker on a mission to Panna to rescue Han Solo for the first time. After arriving on Panna, Threepio and the others encountered the bounty hunter Boba Fett, who was also on the planet seeking to get information from Luke Skywalker about the Rebel Alliance.

C-3PO later related many of these events to Mistress Mnemos, an Alliance BRT Supercomputer, for historical preservation.

When the Alliance was transferred to the ice world of Hoth, C-3PO continued to work with Princess Leia on some personal matters such as drying out her clothes in the frozen environment. C-3PO was responsible for identifying the Empire’s probot, alerting the Rebels to the Empire’s awareness of their location. Things became worse when Luke Skywalker went missing on a scouting mission. After failing to pinpoint his exact location, Threepio could do little but wait until Han Solo returned with the latter. Fortunately, Skywalker was saved due to the efforts of Solo. Soon afterward in the Battle of Hoth, C-3PO escaped with Han Solo in the Millennium Falcon, while his partner joined Luke in his pursuit of the mysterious Yoda.

During this time, C-3PO and Han developed a strange relationship, with C-3PO quoting odds and Han defying them. Normally, Han would have simply shut C-3PO down but due to the mechanical failures on the Falcon, C-3PO was plugged into the ship and communicated with it to determine the problem (which Han took credit for). He would later comment that the Falcon had a most peculiar dialect. After a chase through the Hoth asteroid field, the Falcon escaped to Cloud City on Bespin. While exploring a room almost immediately after his arrival, C-3PO was blasted by a stormtrooper. Vader demanded his memory be retrieved and when he saw his parts, recognized his creation and ordered its destruction. However, after being gone for far too long, Chewbacca headed to the Ugnaught recycling facility where he found the dismembered droid. When Darth Vader revealed his presence to the group, Chewbacca was sent into a holding cell but, after an apparent change of heart from Vader (perhaps part of his resurgent paternal instinct), was permitted to rebuild the droid, which, much to the displeasure of C-3PO, was done poorly. Chewbacca carried the partially-rebuilt C-3PO on his back during Han Solo’s encasement in carbonite.

With the help of the city’s administrator, Lando Calrissian, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and C-3PO were able to escape. Although Chewbacca upon instant release attempted to choke Lando for Han Solo’s capture, C-3PO apologized for the enraged Wookiee’s behavior, which he feared would be the end of him. Having C-3PO on Chewbacca’s back was beneficial: when Boba Fett escaped the city with Han Solo, C-3PO notified them of pursuing stormtroopers. Finally, after a chase through the corridors of Cloud City, the group made it to the Millennium Falcon. R2-D2, whom they found after Luke Skywalker arrived to rescue them, unlocked the door to the landing pad under C-3PO’s command. After successfully escaping Vader’s flagship, the Executor, C-3PO was fully repaired by R2-D2.

Return of the Jedi

Shortly after escaping Imperials on Cloud City, C-3PO joined in the search for Solo. On one occasion, he and Artoo piloted Han’s ship, the Millennium Falcon, and rescued Leia from Prince Xizor.

Roughly a year after escaping Cloud City, Luke commanded C-3PO and R2-D2 to deliver a message to Jabba the Hutt, the gangster who had the encased Han Solo in his palace. Unbeknownst to him, Luke had given the droids to Jabba as a ploy to gain entrance. C-3PO was placed as Jabba’s replacement translator while R2-D2 served on his sail barge. C-3PO’s first translation for the crime lord was of Boushhclaiming the bounty for Chewbacca, whom he had on a chained leash. The meeting became intense when Boushh demanded 50,000 credits and in surprise, Jabba the Hutt smacked C-3PO who then noticed Boushh had a thermal detonator. Fortunately, C-3PO was undamaged and was able to negotiate the deal of 35,000 credits to Boushh (which came as a relief to the paranoid droid). While Boushh was discovered to be Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker infiltrated the palace and killed Jabba’s pet rancor in a fierce duel. This angered Jabba and he transferred his court to the sail barge with Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca as food for the Sarlacc, while Leia served as Jabba’s slave. Just as Luke Skywalker was pushed off the plank, he bounded back up and R2-D2 tossed him his lightsaber. In the midst of the battle, C-3PO was attacked by Salacious B. Crumb, yanking one of his sensors out its socket. Salacious was forced off by R2-D2, which gave C-3PO and R2-D2 a chance to escape the sail barge. Making their way to the platform, R2-D2 pushed C-3PO off and rolled off himself into the sands of the Dune Sea. As the sail barge was burning, the two were quickly rescued and the group headed off planet to the Rebels’ gathering on Home One. C-3PO accompanied the strike force to forest moon of Endor to disable the shield generator protecting the Death Star II. When he, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, and R2-D2 were captured by the Ewoks, they thought he was a prophesied god known as the Golden One. Though C-3PO claimed that pretending to be a deity was «against his programming», the droid was brought to Bright Tree Village as an honored guest at a banquet. Meanwhile, his companions were brought to the Ewok village as prisoners, intended to be the main course at a banquet honoring «the Golden One.»

Despite the droid’s reluctance, Luke Skywalker convinced C-3PO at the banquet to demand that the release of the prisoners. C-3PO told the Ewoks he’d bring down lightning and fire and wrath if his friends were not released. Skywalker then levitated the frightened droid above the clamoring crowd, «proving» to the Ewoks that the droid really did have «magic» powers. Later that night, C-3PO acted as a storyteller, explaining the history and intentions of the Rebels to the tribe. This gained sympathy from the Ewoks and convinced them to help the Rebels at the Battle of Endor.

C-3PO’s part in the Battle of Endor was not yet complete, however. After infiltrating the shield bunker and being captured by Imperial forces, C-3PO began the Ewoks’ assault on the Empire by calling over a group of stormtroopers with a false surrender. Chaos ensued as Ewoks jumped from hiding and attacked the Imperials, allowing for Han Solo and Leia to reach the bunker controls. When R2-D2 was forced to assist in infiltrating the bunker, C-3PO nevertheless followed, evading enemy fire. The battle ended with the Death Star II’s destruction and the death of the Emperor. C-3PO was present at the celebration afterward.

Star Wars

Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the forest planet of Kashyyk. Born 200 years before the Battle of Yavin. Chewbacca was the son of Attichitcuk. Growing up, Chewbacca was known for his sense of adventure, always exploring different parts of his homeworld, including the dangerous Shadowlands. One day, Chewbacca met his future wife Mallatobuck, but was unaware of the her feelings toward him. One day, a group of Trandoshan slavers came and tried to capture Mallatobuck, but Chewbacca came to her rescue. Slowly a relationship blossomed, until it was threatened by another Wookiee named, Tojjevvuk, an albino Wookie, who also had his sights on her. Chewbacca was forced into an honor duel with Tojjevvuk for Malla’s hand, but Tojjevvuk brought dishonor on the duel by using his claws, forbidden for a Wookiee. The two later fought in the trees, and due to Chewbacca’s skills in navigating in the forest, he was able to sneak behind Tojjevvuk and kick him where he fell into the Shadowlands.

By the time The Clone Wars broke out, Chewbacca was a warrior during the clone wars for the battle of Kashyyyk. After order 66 Chewbacca was enslaved by the galactic empire and later freed by Han Solo.

Chewbacca was created by George Lucas. The inspiration came from his dog.

Character Evolution

Chewbacca has undergone some dramatic character development since his first appearances in the clone wars where he was a rebellious beserk fighter. After owing Han Solo a life debt he became more restrained, having to take orders and working alongside Han without complaining. Following the conclusion of the rebellion we see Chewbacca maturing from the impulsive youth he was at the beginning to a skilfull warrior, expert technician and most loyal of team-mates.

Major Story Arcs

Galactic Civil War

Chewbacca first appeared in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, protecting his planet from the Confederate with the help of The Republic and Jedi Master Yoda. When Order 66 came, Chewbacca helped Master Yoda off the planet.

Nineteen years after the Rise of The Empire, Chewbacca was responsible for bringing Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalkerto meet his Captain, Han Solo after Bo Shek introduced them to him. The Wookiee and his friend Han had no way of knowing what would happen next, what seemed like little more then a simple transport mission for two passengers and two droids would turn the pair of smugglers worlds upside down.

It became clear quickly that Luke and Obi-Wan were no ordinary passengers when a garrison of Sandtroopersambushed them in the docking bay that the Millennium Falcon was located in, and more obvious when the ship was attacked by an Imperial Star Destroyer that was in orbit of Tatooine.

As the unlikely group came out of hyperspace at their destination, they were shocked to find Alderaan was now nothing but a field of asteroids and debris, and a ominous moon-like structure drew closer, it was the Death Star. Han and Chewbacca did not have enough time to escape and the Millenium Falcon was captured with a tractor beam. But when the Empire boarded the Falcon, they found no passengers, as the group of heroes were hiding in smuggling compartments Han had built into the ship.

On Hoth

The group managed to dispose of an Imperial scanning crew then called to the two Stormtroopers guarding the Falcon outside, Luke and Han disguised themselves as Stormtroopers and Chewbacca posed as their prisoner. Together the trio infiltrated the detention block and rescued Princess Leia.

After escaping the Death Star, thanks to Obi-Wan Kenobi making the ultimate sacrifice, Han and Chewbacca delivered Luke, Leia, R2-D2, and C-3PO safely on Yavin, unaware that the Empire had been tracking them. Han had his reward and despite some protest from Chewbacca left the planet, but during the closing moments of the Battle of Yavin, Han and Chewbacca aboard the Millenium Falcon disabled Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, allowing Luke to fire the proton torpedo that destroyed the Death Star. Luke, Han, and Chewbacca were shortly after honored as Rebel heroes.

Three years after the destruction of The Death Star, Chewbacca was still with the Rebel Alliance on the Planet Hoth. Chewie was busy making repairs to The Millennium Falcon while Han went to search for Luke who had gone missing. The following day, Chewie was relieved to find that Han and

Star Wars: Chewbacca

This story arc is the only Dark horse comic to have actually starred Chewbacca. This comic series involves R2D2 tracking back through Chewbacca’s life and discovering his origin.

A few years later Han and Chewbacca was sent to do a mission with Anakin Solo. When they got there the planet was about to be destroyed by a moon. Their mission was to evacuate as many of the planet’s inhabitants aboard the Millenium Falcon. While loading them, Anakin fell out of the ship. Chewbacca jumped back onto the planet and grabbed him and threw him back on the ship, saving his life. Anakin then began to pilot the ship while Han reached out to rescue his co-pilot. Anakin however flew off, believing that they could not save him and that in attempting to save his life they would lose their own. Chewbacca died with a defiant roar when the moon crashed into the planet alongside many of the planet’s inhabitants. His death led to Han resenting his son.

Powers and Abilities

As would be expected from a creature of that size Chewbacca has considerably stronger than average strength. He is so strong he can effortlessly tear the arms off droids.

During the Empire’s reign Chewbacca continually led wookie forces in attempting to repel the invading imperials, earning the respect and admiration of many wookiee’s.

Chewie has very good technical knowledge and understanding, and is one of the best engineers around. He designed the hyperdrive and ion cannons of the millenium falcon himself.
